Why do they care what the national average is? ( USBC)
« on: April 28, 2005, 02:23:25 PM »
Do you really think that any kind of change in ball specs or drilling restrictions is going to change scoring.
Yes they can reduce the national average but most of the people that shoot honor scores are going to continue to do so and only the slightly above average and below bowlers are going to be affected.
How does this restore integrity to the game. When all it will do is make the score differential larger.
What they are really trying to do is reduce the amount of money that they spend on awards. I have a solution do away with them I mean who really cares if they get a patch, ring, plaque, or whatever. The self gratification is worth way more than the material goods that you get for the award anyway.
I have received some awards in my short time of bowling and they all sit in a shoe box in my closet. Make the awards just a simple certificate which cost next to nothing.
I mean think about it why does it matter what the national average is.
I don't know what the actual numbers are but lets say that 20 years ago the average was 170 and now it is 185. That just means that Joe bowler that is well above average would have had an average of 200 then but now he has an average 218 he would be 15% above the average now and he would have been if at 200 20 years ago.
I say don't mess with CG placement restrictions and balance holes. If they want to put restrictions on RG, differential, covers, etc fine but it still won't help because the center can just adjust the pattern to make it the same as before.
The only way to make it more difficult to score is put tighter restrictions on the oil patterns that are put out. Not a minimum or maximum amount of oil just a set maximum ratio between the 20:5.

Example:legal illegal 3:1 (hypothetical numbers)

Boards              Units @ 8’
17-23                  45
5-10                15 or >

17-23                  45

5-10
         14 or <

Are the proposed rules going to affect me?
Not very much I can adjust in time but some will be seriously inhibited and I don't want that. I want it to be fair to everyone based on how accurate/consistent they are not their revs, speed, tilt, rotation, drill pattern, etc and these proposed rules will only affect certain types of bowlers.
