Why do you bowl..?
« on: June 12, 2003, 09:40:22 PM »
After reading about high rev's vs low revs, I've concluded it depends on why you bowl.

Do you bowl for fun..? Or, do you bowl just to win..? Meaning, you'll do anything to win. Do you only have fun when you win..? Or, can you have fun without winning..?

Personally, I bowl to entertain myself, as well as others. Yes, I also want to win, but if I don't, I can still have fun.

Today, I don't see many bowlers having fun unless they win, which is why they'll do anything to win.

So, getting back to high rev vs low rev bowlers, I feel the high rev players have more fun, because they are entertaining people.

Low rev players are only out to win. Because, it can't be entertaining for them to watch their ball hit the pocket like fluff-r-nutter.

Bowling is supposed to be fun. And you better have fun without winning. Because if you only have fun when you win, you won't be having fun very often..!!

So, all you low rev players, start working on your game to get more rev's and have MORE FUN..!! =:^D

I am a low rev player. I love to bowl I would bowl all day everyday if I could. Bowling is just something that clicks with me and I love to do it. At times I wish i could rev the cover off the ball but I can not do that it is not my style/game. I am working on side roll right now trying to increase that everytime I go out. Since its summer league its all about improving your game. I bowl at easiest house for summer league and could easily average 190+, but I find it satisfying that everytime I go bowling in the summer I get that much better.

Huh ??  You really mean this....is this an honest comparison ? I disagree...if you bowl, regardless of who you are, you enjoy it, it's fun.......

I have a very twisted death wish, and use bowling to raise my stress level and blood pressure, hoping for that heart attack jackpot!

Seriously, I like to win, but cannot quite put my finger on exactly what makes bowling so alluring to me.  Seems like a silly game when you really think about it, but I guess the enjoyment comes from trying to improve your game or trying to beat you old high scores/series.

So unless you are a high-rev player or get to be a high-rev player, you can not have fun? I respect T-God's views on bowling particularly drilling stuff but he seems to be a very strong proponent of high-revving and high scores. I think because he is a cranker himself. As Michael Haugen (a low-revving straight player) once said, the objective in bowling is to strike and not to hook the ball. And I have fun every time I strike with my low-rev game.

I'm absolutely dumbfounded at the "absoluteness" of these statements. It strikes me along the lines of:

'Blonds are dumb'
'Red heads have fire for tempers'
'Carrots will turn your skin orange'

These statements are absolute nonsense. And so is T-GOD's assessment of what lower rev players are all about. "Fun" is all about proper execution and watching all the pins go down. It doesn't matter the trajectory the ball takes to get there. While I appreciate T-GOD's blind focus on revs for simple minded entertainment, it's a shame he will never appreciate the beauty (and fun) of consistent and successful execution.

To each his own.

Steven, I DO appreciate and welcome, the beauty (and fun), of consistant and successful execution. Especially when it's done accurately, in perfect balance with a high rev release..!! =:^D

Guy's...Guy's..don't get me wrong. All I'm trying to do is push you so you'll take your game UP A NOTCH..!!

Don't be satisfied with your weak release, if you have one. Everyone can work at it to increase their power. Let's not get complacent. Always strive to get better.

Remember, more revs = more strikes when hitting the pocket. =:^D

LT, are you so naive to think all I'm professing is mindless cranking/revving, close your eyes and throw it to the right on walled up conditions..? Is that all you can get out of reading my post's..? I thought you were smarter than that, but I guess not.

There are bowlers out there that rev it up, are in time with perfect balance, who deliver the ball with beauty and grace. This is what I look for. Effortless power..!! Because that's how you get power, being in time at the line and staying balanced, all in a rythm that flows with ease.

And, at the same time, let's keep our lanes manicured to perfection and/or to the best of our ability. Why does the condition burn up/break down. Can't we stop it, or at least prolong it much further..? Yes we can, if we try and care about it.

Bowlers should demand the ultimate condition/playing field. Other professional sports have tip top playing surfaces for their games, why can't we..? Why do we have to hear all the excuses..? The machine broke down, they're the same as last week, we used a different oil, we stripped today..blah..blah..blah.

Do we need different conditions, so more/different bowlers will have a chance to win..? Hell, we don't want the same bowlers winning all the time, do we..? That wouldn't be fair..!! =:^D

Dude, i fully, 100% DISAGREE with your post. This post should be deleted, may god have mercy on your soul, and all of us are now more dumber for having read this. And im also getting a illusion of Hitler from t-god. AN illusion is a literature term, but im not getting into literature. But the fact on how it seems that t-god is trying to convert everyone to a high rev game, and it sounds like he dosnt like anyone but high rev bowlers, therefore i see an illusion of Hitler.

I bowl in order to maintain my mental sanity.  If it wasn't for my bowling, they'd have to lock me away in a looney bin somewhere.

I don't get too wrapped up in the wins and losses, especially since I can't control the actions of the other members on my teams.  I just bowl to do the best that I can, and let the chips fall where they may.

Also, I'm thinking 300 on every game that I start out on.  For me, the ultimate adrenaline rush is shooting a 300 game, which I've only pulled off twice now.  I fell short on 3 other attempts, with a pair of 299's and a 298.  On the 299's, I was pretty satisfied with the 12th shot that I made, but I didn't get the carry.  On the 298, I was disgusted with myself because I stumbled on the approach (a physical problem) and it caused me to botch the shot, and I just barely got an 8 count out of the deal.  Out of 5 trips to the well, I was satisfied with 4 of them, and disgusted with the botched effort on the 298.

I can't seem to put 3 good games together very often, so I've only been even close to 800 on a couple of occasions.....at least I didn't buckle under the pressure, but I got tapped a couple of times that cost me big.  On my last attempt, a single 4-pin in the 9th frame of the 3rd game cost me the 800.  Maybe one of these days I'll get there.

But yes, I bowl for my sanity and for the ultimate adrenaline rush of the 300 game.

Lt,

All I've read from you is that you require a perfect surface (would be nice but not a reality unfortunately) and a special heavily oil condition to achieve success. This is narrow minded and to this player very comical.

So, striving to have a better release/stronger game and to have perfect lane conditions is narrow minded, and comical..? Well, I'm sorry, I don't like to settle for second best. =:^D
