why do you bowl?

Last week I asked a few people why they bowl and I got all kinds of different answers.  One guy looks grumpy and after every shot he comes back swearing at himself.  He says things like, "What's wrong with you you dumb moron learn to throw the ball right what kind of shot is that you stupid idiot!"  And he's talking about himself.  LOL.  This guy stinks yet he tries to give everyone else advice.  So I asked him why he bowls and he said for the competition.  HUH?  

Anyway, I asked a few others and here are some answers:

1.  To hang out with the boys
2.  Drink some beer, eat pizza and throw some balls
3.  Pressure relief from work
4.  Win money
5.  Fun
6.  Get away from the wife
7.  Try for honor scores

For me my answers are none of the above.  I bowl to pick up on chicks and to blast the pins.  Why just the other night I was lighting the place up and shot a lights out first game of 167.  Then I proceeded to carry the house and shot a 2nd game of 173.  Last game I was on fire and shot 174.  Total for series was 514, which certainly is another honor score.  But the best part of the whole night was when I picked up on a few CPL, who were actually WPL (waitress per league) and also picked up on an SPL (stripper per league).  Yes our bowling alley has a lingere show in the bar and one of those chicks could not resist the peachness that is me.

So, why do you bowl?

I don't know, I guess b/c I always have.  I haven't been able to lately b/c of medical reasons.  I have found more enjoyment as of late helping yutes and drilling balls for people.

I just plain enjoy it!

Of course, it's no fun when I'm bowling badly, but the really bad nights are not that common.  I enjoy winning money, but in some of my leagues, I don't even play any of the side action, and in one league, there isn't any.  I only drink beer in one league (I bowl in four), and that is after we finish.  As a married guy with kids, I'm not trying to pick up CPL's or WPL's or even SPL's (although if we go back to NC any time, I'll gladly return to the Silver Fox with the Peach ).

I think part of what keeps me going is trying to improve.  I still have several goals that good bowlers my age have already achieved.  I'd like to win a tournament, shoot a 300 game, and get an 800 series.  Although I see the latter as a real stretch, I think the first two are attainable.

Once I have achieved all my goals and "done it all," I might start to lose interest in the sport, but for now I'm hooked!

Currently, there's not enough stress and aggravation in my life, so I bowl to fill that void.

Rags-
I'll vote for #3.

I bowl because I love the competition of me against the pins.
And I love figuring out the technology and subtleties that separate the men from the boys (hand positions, loft/early release changes, etc...)

I love the challenge - and when I get humbled (way too often for my tastes), I just get back on the horse!

Why do I bowl?   Let me get back to you on that in another 20 years.  However, I do believe that strippers per league is an extremely valid reason for bowling.

I bowl because, tis really fun, I don't get mad at it really easily because there is nothing that much to get mad at. I know I get a little upset, but not as much. I mean whatever I want my ball to do and it wont do it, I just turn around and just ignore it, and go to the next one.

Just because.  Actually it can be fun sometimes and I get out of the house and I get to watch some pretty entertaining attempts at getting the ball down the lane and I get to meet some interesting people, and, and, and....
