I had the chance to bowl in a tournament he was in once. Funky arm swing or not, in person all I saw were a metric ton of Xs all lined up in a row.

He's also a helluva nice guy, or at least he was to me.

What I want to know is how someone can rip on Weiss for his arm swing, yet they'll forgive Mika (too much loft), Shafer (bolt upright at the foul line + fast feet), WRW (looks like he snatches straight up at release a lot of the time), Wayne Garber (too much to list), etc. If Weiss' style was that bad, plenty of people had a chance to bowl better than him last month and do something about it, but they didn't.

Just looked like camera nerves to me.  You could tell in his swing when it was going to be a good shot.  It looked like he could hold his wrist firm, like he was shaking.

It doesn't matter how he looks as long as he is consistent, and obviously Weiss can be a machine at times. Shoot, Scott Devers should have taught us that it doesn't matter how you look as long as you can repeat shots.

By your reply, I guess he won with his superior skills.    But, he still looked like a THB in his finals.    All of his "gifts" in his finals helped a bit also.    Anyhow, he did good for a THB.    But, he shouldn't give up his day job though.

All you holier than thou people really amaze me.  Since when is it against the frickin law to criticize the performance of a professional athlete?  No, I'm  not good enough to get where he got and I'm not afraid to admit it.  Doesn't mean I can't talk about his armswing or follow through or whatever.  None of you have ever talked about how Jay Cutler sucked or Carmelo Anthony sucked or Derek Jeter sucked I suppose either?  Give me a break.

Thanks Russell.  I suppose I should have asked in a less ranting way.  Why do you feel professional bowlers should be off limits when it comes to criticism?  I know you feel strongly about it, because you immediately jump on anyone who does it.  We do it in every other sport, why not bowling?

I don't think they are off limits, and I have to be honest I think doing it in other sports is stupid too.  I have a problem with people saying Barnes is a choke artist, Weiss had no business being on tv...etc.  Like I said...they have a right to critique pros...I have a right to critique them.  I think that when people bash pros in any sport it's just stupid.  These people get paid to do things that we can't...and yet we sit in our recliners with a bag of Doritos and talk about how much they suck....it's stupid.  If you want to question a manager for a bad decision, or a bad ball choice by a bowler, or a fumble, that's one thing....but to say Randy Weiss sucks is just stupid.

Another guy that comes to mind is Mike Lichstein......or even Wayne Garber. All I know is Weiss was one half-ten away from bowling for the title.

Just watched the show. Wiess's armswing was not consistent. Looked like be was worried about his ball hooking on the backend and not trusting it to come back. As a result at times he seemed to be trying to make the ball hook by coming over and around it. You could predict when he was going to hit the pocket. When his follow through was up the back he hit the pocket. When his follow through was to his left shoulder something bad followed. This was a mechanics problem that I have not seen from other bowlers that have made the shows.

Wiess is an excellent spare shooter. No doubt he bowled his arse off to get to the show. For sure the ugly girl has a right to go to the prom too.

Anybody who goes 5 frames in a championship match without hitting the pocket, chosing the wrong ball to play,  walks crooked, follow through all over the place.    What do we call him?????

5 frames sure is a large sample size. Im sure youve never thrown it bad for 5 frames, ever. Am I right?
