Will a 200 game ever come?
« on: July 18, 2003, 11:10:03 PM »
Its something I have been chasing all year....new equipment has helped some, but with new equipment come a whole new game. I have always been a straight ball rocket thrower, now an Icon 300 and plastic spare ball has become my game, and the adjustments have been very tring on my patients, but I am improving every time out. So far I have found myself as close as 192......but the best I can count on each week is the fact that my average is slow getting higher. After an 18 year layoff, I desided to return to the game I played in my youth, (was never any good then either)and started the league with a 135 avg. (with the old hammer from 20 years ago)now I am somewhere in the 143 range, with last weeks 3 game avg being 173. ( I know that will most likely not repeat next week but I am hoping)
Sorry about rambling, but I needed a pat on the back even if I did it myself.

Keep working at it, you'll get there. My first 200 game didnt even come in league. I went a whole season without one and on the day before we bowled for the championship, I went to practice. First game was like a 155, mind you I was only averaging 124 at the time. Next 3 games were 224, 212 and a 231. Go figure. Once you get the first they are easier to get everytime.

Ed,

You'll get that 200 game, probably sooner than you think.  I would hate to think how rusty I would be after an 18 year layoff.  At least you are improving and dont forget to work on the spare game.  Every spare you make brings you that much closer to your goal, and with a few strikes, you're there.

You can bowl a 200 game with only two strikes. Two strikes in a row and eight spares. Spares are the key.

I like Peri's definition of bowling. Pretty hard for a excited youth to slow down at both. Guys our age have no choice but to.

I'd suggest to slow down at your set up and really prepare for your next shot. Try to land your ball at your target with preferably the same speed and hand release angle (axis rotation)and above all stay balanced at realease. If the ball is not hitting where you want it to, adjust your stand left or right. Keep everything smooth and repeatable. Apply K.I.S.S.
