Will be in Chicago area in October, help?
« on: July 24, 2017, 11:56:24 AM »
Will be in Chicago for work training for the last two weeks of October.  Staying in Schaumburg, and will be there over the weekend in between those weeks, so will be there two solid weeks.  I'm not one for sightseeing, but I'm definitely one for eating AND for checking out any local bowling establishments.  Not entirely sure I want to tote all my gear up there, but I'd definitely be down for just meeting some people or maybe just hanging out during league or something.  So sightseeing, not interested, food though, very interested.  I may possibly have pizza for every meal.  Company car, so I have to watch it on the mileage, but I've got a few hundred to play with.  Not super interested in fighting traffic or crowds or walking around by myself without knowing where I'm at though.  Appreciate anything anyone can tell me!

I (along with a bunch of us, I bet) work in Schaumburg. Good centers around there are Fox Bowl in Wheaton and Poplar Creek Bowl in Hoffman Estates, but there's no shortage of centers around here. Elk Grove Bowl, Bowling Green Sports Center, Brunswick Zone Roselle, Liberty Lanes...

Also, you need Kuma's in your life. https://kumascorner.com/location/kumas-schaumburg/

Kuma's is awesome, Geno's East deep dish (I prefer sausage), Al's or Johnnie's for italian beef. There are a million places to go but those are some of my favorites.

Well being that baseball, college football, and NFL will all be going during that whole weekend I have to kill, I'm very much wanting to find a place to just kind of hang and eat at the whole time lol.  Of course, knowing me, I'll probably end up hanging out in the hotel room just leaving to get a pizza every couple hours.  Super super homebody.  The boss has apologized at least a dozen times that I'll have to be there the whole weekend, and I'm like Chicago pizza, sports, and a super quiet weekend in the hotel room?  That sounds so great I about want to cry lol.

Chicago in October is so much better than Chicago in January (grew up near Rockford). Its touristy but my brother who still lives out there really loved Carson's ribs as well (really good BBQ).

Cool, but I'm so sick of BBQ I could puke.  I'm pretty close to KC, so whenever we're out and about, "hey let's try this joint."  Some really great stuff here, but I'm ready for some heckin pizza!  That's something that's not great down here, finding even decent pizza is pretty hard.

I suggest you go bowl the Petersen Tournament in nearby River Grove.  If you do, and you're a first timer.... best to leave your ego at the door.

Very gimmicky but FUN tournament.  No dots, no arrows, banners hang from the ceiling to block your view of the pins, every lane is conditioned differently, mis-matched pins, bad racks, etc.

They've been running squads since late April, and so far only 2 people have broken 1600 for 8 games.

If pizza's your thing and you're staying in Schaumburg I'd go to Lou Malnati's. Classic Chicago style pizza. They have both a sit down restaurant, which depending on the day and time tends to be crowded, and a carry-out only location right there in town. Buy and pie and take it back to your room.

Quite a few options near by in Schaumburg.

Couldn't agree more, love the Pete, bowling it this weekend in fact.

Unfortunately though, it ends first week of September.
