Working Out & Bowling
« on: April 07, 2010, 03:59:10 AM »
I am not sure if we have ever talked about this topic but here is..

Does working out change your bowling game? I am alittle thick because I use to workout allot back in the day and now I am trying to eliminate this stomach problem that is starting to grow.  Doing 30 + mins of cardio and hitting weights but each time it throws my game off.  Either my ball speed has increased, arm size affects the position or etc..

Its always something that is changed after working out..

Is anyone else having this problem

I've been working out pretty consistently the past year or so, and as such have gotten a bit broader in the shoulders.  My two problems were this:

1)  Ball speed.  It was so much easier to just wing it, especially when I was angry.  So I had to learn that the key to a consistent (and better) speed was my footwork.  So I worked on taking steps in a rhythm and that helped me a bunch.

2)  Lining up.  I had to adjust how to start my approach a bit b/c I was perpetually hitting a board or two right of what I wanted.  So I had a bit of a pow-wow with my coach, and realized what I needed to do to fix it.  If you're having similar problems with lining yourself up, get a second pair of eyes to help you out.  I tried for weeks but could NOT figure it out until my coach watched me, lol.

I've had a lot of positive gain in my game though, which is the reason why I plan on keeping with the workout for as long as I can.

Obviously, you aren't a golfer.
Some stayed in the foothills, some washed logs like teeth.

Working out is great for you game, and it will allow you to bowl better longer. The only thing you need to keep tabs on is as you get into shape your thumb and finger size will change so you might need to get new grips or slugs and have them fitted again. Working out led me to move back to 16, because as I got stronger I lost feeling of where the ball without really slowing my tempo down.

Another note is that you should probably get to league early if you work out before hand to warm up and get loosened up or you will bowl really poorly.
