Worthless post: how to not suck at bowling
« on: October 31, 2006, 07:29:37 PM »
So, for any of you that did not see the banner, this is a completely useless post, and one that you should skip. But if you're still here, how do I turn into a person that does not suck at bowling? How do you go from being a good bowler, to being one that blows, to being a good bowler again?

Back to basics, no fancy stuff. Use a less reactive ball if you have one & go straight at the pins.

If that fails... Buy Hook in a box, join THS league, remove thumb, fling Hook in a box with massive revs, bounce it off the adult bumpers into the pocket.  Problem solved.

Ive been there, MANY times, most people call it a slump, i call it having my head stuck up my A** for an extended amount of time.  If u used to be good, & now u suck, stop thinking.  You're still good, u just have to stop thinking about it & throw the damn ball.

Go and take a lesson from a coach, to get you throwing the ball right.  It could also be something as simple as something different in your approach or release, just need to get yourself video'd and dissect it.

Lessons. They will help. If not....then back to basics....smooth approach, smooth arm swing, follow through, lift, arm swing neither outside nor inside.

Buy a sham ball that is has um "Technology built into it", low RG and fire the ball accurately into the pocket very straight with a cheater Robo Arm device. Doesn't need to be a physical specimen. Learn to pickup the weak ten spare and live with an occasional pocket split. On a walled THS should be near the 210 mark. Of course, I'm kidding, but there is a shadow of truth to my words, and hate to admit it, sarcasm.

Not a problem. This is the best I have shot spares in a long long time. I haven't missed a single pin spare in over 4 weeks, bowling 4 days a week.

The anger issues could be a problem. A broken cell phone and a broken ashtray later...

As of today though, bowling is on the back burner, as my father is in the hospital with a blood clot in his brain. Please hope for the best, as he is not doing well right now.

Stanski to start off sorry about your father our prayers go out to you. As for the bowling go back to the basics and quit thinking so much the good part of your game is still there your mind is just fighting it.

I have been told numerous times that the biggest problem in bowling is between the ears. Bowling is a simple sport, bowlers make it difficult. Stand, walk and roll the ball. KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid. Have read that on BR numerous times.

Slow down, focus (but don't over do it, overthinking is no good) and as cheesy as it sounds tell yourself your going to get a strike, get a spare, etc and convince yourself of this (I know its harder then it sounds). I read somewhere that some college bowling team (I can't recall which) is actually 'coached' to 'encourage' themselves prior to bowling and they have consistently had one of the best bowling programs in the country for years...

Tell yourself - "Im good enough, and Im smart enough and gosh darn it, Im going to get a strike"...
