Would you pay a premium?
« on: July 13, 2004, 09:53:07 PM »
I've been talking with our local proprietor this summer. He's the only one on this side of town willing to put out a sanctioned sport league, but won't do it in the winter - only in the summer.
When the sport league is running, they also put the shot out on 4 lanes on Sunday morning for practice, make ups, pre/post bowling, etc.
I've told him that I'd really appreciate it if he'd put the sport conditions out at least for practice on Sundays during the winter, and that I'd even pay extra to practice on the tougher conditions.

How does everyone else feel?

I would love for something like that to be done out here. I can't really say that I'd enjoy paying a premium to practice on it, as I'm fairly cheap. Then again, I'd be all in favor of bowling sport for real during the winter. My 203 average doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot to me, considering it's accomplished on a fairly predictable house shot. I would rather average 180 something on a challenging pattern, that way maybe I wouldn't go to tournaments and get dusted. There are plenty of people who enjoy carrying the inflated averages, however, and that's why it's so hard to get sport leagues running.

Bowling is without a doubt the dumbest, most pointless, most idiotic excuse for a game that has ever been invented. So, what time are we bowling tomorrow?

Depends on how much but yes I would. I would probably be OK up to $1 a game extra.

I don’t know if I would practice on them for all my practice games but I would definitely use them.

I would think any place that is running a sport shot league would have a time during open bowling each week where they could do this to a few pairs.

Now with this I’m assuming they have the programmable lane machines that make changing over easy.

I would pay a little extra to practice on them, yes. But the house I bowl in cant put down certain conditions. Wouldnt it figure I bowl in a HUGE 40 lane house, that rakes in like millions of dollars,  yet, the lanes are OLD wood, and the oiling machines dont even have a pattern, they lay flat oil like 10 to 10, then just DUMP it all outside that so its like alot of oil 10 to the gutter. >_<

I am running sport shot open bowling here in Michigan in several centers around the state.  In fact, every center actually charges less than regular rates.  It truly is not THAT inconvenient to put out this shot once or twice a week, and then strip and reoil for leagues.  If a center tells you that, then they are lazy.

The centers that are running these sport shots are actually interested in the sport of bowling and interested in promoting bowling as a sport.  Quite refreshing in my opinion.

If a center tells you they won't put it out for you, then tell them "OK, thanks anyways.  I guess I'll have to find a new center to bowl since you don't want me to bowl here".  It really is what they are basically saying.  You are willing to spend money in their bowling center if they can take 10 minutes to strip and reoil a set of lanes or more.  That 10 minutes in wages for the mechanic is about what, $1.50-$2.00?  And the oil costs well under a buck.  So for $2 they can make upwards of $8-$15 from you, depending on price.  And I imagine others will want to try it too!

Centers that won't do this...mind boggling, simply mind boggling.
