Wow, 1st night, new pattern, cracked ball
« on: August 27, 2008, 03:29:36 AM »
So last night we started the new season.  They put down a new pattern, 43' with a flood in the middle and OOB outside of 10 (way too dry to play).  I shot not so hot (588) with a ball way too strong for the pattern. This morning I went downstairs to my ball rack to find something a bit weaker than the Cell that I used las night.  I thought I'd try my Sling Blade (plugged once).  Well, that's a non starter - cracked from the thumb to the plugged thumb, then on around the ball and another crack from the plug to the weight hole.  None of my other equipment was cracked (all 20 other balls) and I hope the basement is warm enough to not cause cracking this winter.  Just seems odd that the one would crack that badly and the rest be OK.

How would you play this pattern, and with what ball?  There is a mountain of oil between 16 and 24 and very dry from 9 to the ditch.  Seems that you have to play between 10 and 15.  Screaming backends as well, so you want something that wont finish too hard.

Me stupid. Me believe anything. Please tell me what to do.

And I bowl very well, thank you.  Now, do you have any useful input or do you just run your mouth?

W2 , what ur on is a wet/dry shot, usually u would use a particle ball to blend it out or something like the gamebreaker or a smooth solid, but i tend to really like particle pearls on this shot, if u miss right they dont jump off the dry, and if u miss left they dont slide all the way to the pins.

Im so glad people are brainwashed to think that TRACK sucks. And its even funnier when im carrying with my TRACK ball and they're going flat ten with their BRUNSWICK ball.

I bowled on this type of shot last year and had a lot of success with a Track Inertia which is a particle pearl. So count it as a second to particle pearls do work well. You could also trying playing deep with a real strong ball.

Thank you guys.  I'll go see what I've got in the basement.  I was thinking particle pearl or, at the other extreme, something solid at a pretty low grit (1200 or so) so it would roll out and just roll into the pocket.  I've had some success (odd as it seems) with that sort of ball on some drier shots.
I do have a Mean Machine with the pin close to the pap, but I think this might be too much ball.

2nd that... the other center here puts down a 39ft of oil with the outter 5-7 boards bone dry... my particle pearl works best... particle solid burns up too soon and my pearl reactive is too wek to make it in the oil and too jumpy to be controllable.

a nice particle pearl is imho a good answer

Was the Sling Blade the only Ebonite/Hammer ball in the basement?

As you noted above... and I have found that up the back with no more than 15 degree tilt works well straight down and in.

Take any ball, go to parking lot.    Bowl a few games to get some cement grit embedded in the ball.   This ball is guaranteed to hold the line.  Early roll, no flip, just aim it at the pocket.  Cheaper than buying a new "particle ball". or taking some lessons on how to bowl.

Dead, I dont' intend to buy anything.  I've got about 20 that I bought (all used btw) in the basement.  And I know how to bowl - been doing it for 48 years, finally getting to the place where I actually know a little.  Tried the parking lot routine a couple of times - helped some, but not the answer.  Using my ability and knowledge seems to work a lot better.  But, since I know some folks know a lot more than me, I don't mind asking.  Thanks for you input, now go help someone else.

2nd the particle pearl with something like a 1:30 drill pattern to smooth it out of the breakpoint
