Well, its not like the driller accidentally put it to the left. There was probably a mis judgment on the span when he put the finger holes in. If your spans were say, 4 1/2 and 4 3/8 when you drill the fingers you would need to make sure the ring finger is exactly 1/8 higher than the middle finger, then you can drill the thumb strait down. If he put the fingers in a strait line(both on the same strait line after drilling) he would need to off set the thumb to get the spans right. Its not that big a deal, there might be a slight pitch problem on your middle finger causing the pain..? Or maybe he just completely missed lol, I don't know. Just saying the reason for that would be to correct the span.
