USBC Membership activation
« on: November 15, 2014, 05:41:27 PM »
Is setting up an account online necessary?  This is the first year I can remember being asked to do this but when I try to do so on their site, I get a page with a run time error on it.  I would just assume skip this step if its not necessary.

I read that on mine when it came in Thursday.......Laughed and said F$%K that I'm not signing up for $hit and tossed it in the trash with my other junk mail.

Not sure what the sign up was for. Maybe someone else had better luck and can share.

Yeah, thats what I'm going to do.  I don't want or need their emails about insurance deals, etc. etc.

Don't worry they will still snail mail you credit card and insurance offers. Because who doesn't love getting that in the mail.

This same crap happened last year. Someone said this "sign-up" was just to get your email for advertisements. This is the same thing as they had on the actual sanction card the past few years. There was a small field which you checked if you DID NOT want to get advertisement emails. We warned each other to check this box.

Do not "activate" your sanction card number. You are sanctioned and you do not need to do anything else. It is now valid (i just got my card in the mail yesterday).

FYI The USBC is now a corporation just like any other and they will do anything to make a buck.

There is no way I will ever "activate" my USBC membership.  When "activation" becomes a requirement, I will either quit bowling, or bowl in non sanctioned events only.

The USBC is a joke, and has been since the days of the ABC.  The old farts back then couldn't see past their noses, and the guys nowadays can't see past their paychecks. Bowling long ago stopped being about the sport, and started being about the money. When that happened, the writing was on the wall.

The USBC is no more a governing body, any more than George Plimpton was a football player.

WOW!! That is going back aways! I remember getting Paper Lion as one of my Christmas presents in high school.

Yeah.......I agree with your statement and CharlesT. I think all leagues should just go unsanctioned and refuse to pay USBC any monies.....period!!

What's the worst that can happen? Nothing!! We'll all just save money!

There are, unfortunately still 2 good (in my opinion) reasons for sanctioning:
1. The rule book. The rule book is the definition of bowling.
2. Money/fees and treasurer/president bonding.

Without the rules we have full contact bowling, which isn't a joke and isn't meant to be.
