This guy takes telacasting to a new level

GET DOWN!!!!

DROP AND GIVE ME 10!!

And on a side note Walter Ray is now the best PBA bowler ever...better than E.A. according to Randy. Its kinda hard to say he's not now.

Earl Anthony did it faster and with a larger field of competition. (blah blah blah)

Yeah, but WRW Jr. bowled against more talent on the right side than Earl ever bowled against on the left side.

Nah, because Earl won 41 in fewer tournaments.  WRW has to have an asterisk by his name.  Right?

It is impossible to say who is the greatest ever.  On one hand you have Earl...lefty, using different equipment on different oil patterns...and then Walter, righty, stronger equipment...different oil patterns.

Let's just say they were both fantastic...I don't think WRW gives a hoot if people think he's the greatest or not...he's won nearly $4 mill...bowling...I'd say that would be enough for me

WRW...and most of it with resin.

Good point.  Everyone forgets that point.  WRW was able to use resin balls against his opponents who were still saddled with Earl's '70s-era plastic and rubber balls.

Earl won 41 titles and two Masters in 14 years, it took WRW 23 and he did it against smaller fields and most of it with resin.

Good point.  Using resin was soooo unfair the rest of the field.  I mean wasn't the rest of the field using urethane and rubber.....[sarcasm]

the fact that walter has won most of his titles using resin doesn't make it any easier!  Fact is there can only be one winner.  Consider that walter isn't creating more room and more carry with the equipment either.
What makes walter so special is that he won in what to me are 3 eras:  urethane era in the 80s, resin in the 90s and our current "sport" era.  In response to the comments i'll get about calling this era the sport era, it is true.  All the majors are on sport patterns.  Shark and viper met the sport requirements before PBA experience came into play.  The focus now is on putting out tougher shots that are still scorable.  Even through all of these changes walter has been consistently the best player on tour.  Whether it be in single-elimination match play, shootouts or through round robin, he has managed to find a way to win

The only detractor I see to WRW's number of wins, is the fact that for the last few years he has bowled against an exempt field.  EA had to qualify every week, and wasn't gifted an invite into the top 64 every week.  Even after putting that to the side, I would still go with EA as the best ever.  EA did it in a far shorter time frame and did it against larger fields in the heyday of bowling.

How much different would the weekly results be now, if all the exempt guys had to qualify with the PTQ guys just to get into the round of 64.  Would we be seeing more guys like Rhino Page and Dino Castillo on the telecast?  Or would the same exempt guys consistently rise to the top week in and week out?  I can't answer that question, but I can say it would be harder all the way around for the current exempt guys to make the show on a regular basis.

I can't answer it for sure, but given that most of these guys were dominating four or five years ago before the exempt tour, I'd wager that we'd be seeing the same guys on TV either way.  Make 'em bowl more games, the cream still rises to the top.
