your grip
« on: March 20, 2006, 04:37:55 AM »
Have you ever had a sudden change in your grip?  By which I mean, have your usual pitches and spans suddenly, within a week or so, seemed to be no longer right?  I had a ball drilled up a week ago, but didn't use it because something felt off.  I initially thought my driller had messed up the span of one finger.  But after checking several balls, everything seems a bit out of whack.  I think I'm going to have my driller re-do the last ball with a tad shorter span and more away pitch in the fingers.  I have been losing reverse in the thumb for a while, gradually working from 1/2 reverse to (currently) 1/16 reverse.  I did shorten the span a bit on the way.  But suddenly this seems all out of whack - I have no good feel in anything.  And a couple of weeks ago I commented about how good my grip felt.  I just don't get it.  I will recheck everything before re-drilling, but my driller is a pretty careful guy and, to my knowledge, has never screwed anything up like this, for anyone, in the past.

Bones, yep, my hand does change all the time.  BUt I've never felt such a radical change as what I'm feeling now.  It literally feels as if all of my equipment belongs to someone else; the thumbs don't feel right, span feels long and I've got  a bump growing on my middle finger that had vanished once we changed the finger pitch.  I'll know more tonight after re-measuring some stuff.

I to feel this same feeling on ocassion. Some nights my fingers feel tigher then usual and my thumb seems tighter too. Because of this all my balls are a little loose with the thumb so I use 1-2 peices of tape and either add or remove during practice. This is 1 reason why I went to Vacu-Grip Finger inserts, greatest move ive done with that. 2nd reason was to stop the inserts from digging into the natural skin fold causing infection and bleeding. No longer have that problem.

Its nearly impossible to keep your hand from swelling or shrinking from day to day, just need to mess with your equipment with tape and inserts. The vacu-grips give you a great feel regardless of your fingers swollen or not.

Rags, are you by any chance a salt eater?  While we need a certain amount of salt daily, many foods have an excess of salt(to add taste to cheap foods) and any excess of salt causes water retention which can contribute to swelling of the hand and fingers.    Just a thought.

Bones

I try and avoid salt.  But I have eaten some boxed stuff from the store lately; maybe that's got something to do with it.
