Your House
« on: November 01, 2007, 04:19:18 PM »
Does the house or houses in which you bowl normally put out the same shot and volume of oil each week for the most part?

I bowl in two houses.

One house twice a week and the other just once.
The house #1 I only bowl once a week and I to know what to expect.

House#2 I never know what's going to be out there. It's fun when I have the right equipment with me but when I don't its along night for me. I'm still learning hand positions, working on speed adjustments, angles, trajectory, etc
So I find myself wanting to change balls before I make other adjustments to score in this house. I know that this will help me become a better bowler but, I was just wondering if it was just this house that does that.

I only consitantly bowl in one house and our lanes are the same all the time unless of course your in the PBA league. Our lanes are synthetics and I do great on them, but I've been to some other synthetic lanes and its not so good! lol I don't get it, I guess some places have more oil on the edges, I think our lanes have the christmas tree patterns and other places I been to is more a spead out pattern and I usually have to play straighter. Most of the time it doesn't matter what I bring with me cause I bring a light oil ball, benchmark ball, then something that will move for me in the heavier stuff. Then I usually also have a ball layed out for backend so once I do hit some dry that thing will come back if the patter is long and won't nothing turn in the oil. It all just depends but it makes it more interesting that way. lol

Emphatic NO!  Probably one of the main reasons I keep bowling otherwise I'd be bored.

I bowl in 3 different houses.  Each house is a crap shoot.  It can be long and tight one week and hooking off your hand the next.  Then the rare occassion that they wall it up.  Its kinda cool cause it keeps me on my toes, but I also don't like bring 6 balls to league.

My club house is VERY conservative - we have about 70+ active players, but the lane crew does not get it to put down various oil patterns, just to help us player in training. Always the same: 22 units, 37' long, fat oil tongue between 12 and 28, and buffed to the outside.
Some players have already seized the oil machine and started experimenting with the programming for Friday evening open bowling - because this is the only opportunity to change things "underneath the radar"...

On the other side, a neighboring house (in Duisburg) is very open to new things, and since many very good bowlers of international format play there, you frequently run into different and very tough things, ranging from a deadly 25' short pattern through a (licensed!) PBA experience league up to official premier bowling league patterns that are laid out for training - just yesterday I ran into a 45', quite flat pattern that was very demanding and speed sensitive. Only bad thing about it is that there is no official note or lane graph, so one would know what actually is out there, or a kind of announcement what will be when applied. But it is highly challenging, and a good contrast to my home base.

I bowl in two houses.  In the newer one with synthetic lanes, the shot is very similar from week to week.  In the other with wood lanes, where we bowl in the evening after a mid-day league, the shot is NEVER the same from week to week.  I have to bring every ball in my arsenal with me and be very open to trying new lines to the pocket because it can be so different from week to week or even left lane to right lane.

I bowl in two synthetic houses.

House one:
Same shot all of the time. Shot holds up for 4 games with minimal adjustments.

House two:
Slightly different shot each week, but definitely playable with same equipment from week to week. Owner trying to please the whiners by tweaking the shot. Shot does break down slightly, but never more than a 5 board adjustment on the approach.

Generally, it's the same. During the first year of the new house, you could tell the shot changed after a 300 was shot. We had 5(?) that Spring, including mine, and the next week the shot was altered.

Kind of. First month it was heavy oil week and medium to medium heavy the the next. This past month it's been very consistent. The only problem most people have on the pair of lanes they bowl on in my league is that one lane would have the ball hook 2-4 boards more than the other.
