Youth Influx

Ok... I believe there has been a concerted effort by USBC to push youth bowling to provide an influx of bowlers into the adult leagues. Has your area noticed better youth bowlers into the adults leagues or more young bowlers in adult leagues?

Here in memphis I think I have noticed both good youth bowlers and a significant increase in youth transition. I think the plan is working and hopefully will continue to grow.

I just moved up this year to adult. I am 19, The closest person to me in age is 27! Where are all of those in between bowlers? I would like to know that lol, My centers senior league is bigger than and mens, womens, or mixed league, granted they have more time on their hands. But thats still shocking to me. I think bowling missed a few years on some generations. I noticed a deflux in high school bowling in the past 2 years in my area, but is now starting to pick up. I hope more kids get into the sport every day. I wouldnt have anyone to coach on saturday mornings anymore lol.

I am 19 and will be going adult for the fall season. I'll be bowling a doubles league with my friend who will be 22. I will also be bowling a PBA Experience league with my friends aged 24, 24, 20, and 40.

I'm 21, lost my last year of youth bowling to the new age rule. I'm now bowling adult, I have two friends in the same league as me that were youth too. Now, we are the youngest by about 10 years in this league. Looking at this now, I see why they may have tried to push youth into adult. Seems like there has been a drop off in youths continuing after graduating college...

i'm not seeing younger league players. i'm 49 and the ages of the other guys on my team in our scratch league are 36, 52, 60, and 62. the other 12 teams have players ranging from their upper 20's to their mid 60's. i'm not seeing players between the ages of 19 and say, 28. i'm not seeing these younger players in my mixed league either.

The disenfranchaisment of the older youth this year has seen an influx in our adult leagues.  Some of have been drafted into our higher level scratch league.  Other then that no differnece.  I counted 16 youth that were disen franchaised this year.  Most are bowling adult leagues.

That doesn't count the youth that go onto college or move our of the area.

IMO, the kids that go off to college account for the largest drop off in youth bowlers going adult.  They don't come back until they get out of college, form families and get resettled.  This takes about 10 to 15 years.  USBC should be focusing on those former youth bowlers.

Over the years it used to be as a youth bowler you would join the league your parents have been members of for many years.  There were many teams made up of families.  This has been happening less and less as time goes on.

I'm in a decent handicap lg in NY. We have one team of early 20's. Beyond that I'm one of the youngsters at 35.

There are an abundance of really good youth bowlers in my youth travel league, and I know that most of them would be more than competent in an adult league, but I think they're staying back trying to rack up the most scholarship possible, and also maybe waiting for their other good bowling friends move up as well so that they aren't alone.  I, at sixteen, have been told that I'd be competent going adult, but I'm going to wait until I'm at least 18, but after that, I don't know what I'm going to do.  I'm thinking about aging out, but by the time I age out, I don't know if it'd be as fun anymore since there won't be as much competition.

Here in New Jersey, it seems that high school bowling is a major deal. Many centers have a large amount of kids bowling regularly in the afternoon, as part of classes. It seems to have been this way for years now.

We always have tons of teenagers joining adults leagues depending on how they feel about it. Many join at 17, some wait til later. The degree of skill has a lot to do with how good a coach they had and the style shows the same.

I can't say there's been an influx because there has seemed to be any lack for the last 10 -12 years at a minimum.

I went adult this year, along with 2 others that are around my age, and we're on a team in a mixed league.  We're 20-21.  The other two members are 26 and 28, needless to say we're the youngest team in the league.  I know a couple youths that went adult at 16, each at different times since they weren't the same age.  I know a select few other youths that were forced to go adult but they aren't really in my area.
