Awesome Hook vs. Scorching Inferno
« on: July 20, 2006, 12:39:56 PM »
I need a heavy oil ball and my decision is split between a Scorching or an Awesome Hook. I have a Shock and Awe and am very pleased with Morich balls and am a longtime Brunswick fan. Does anyone have any recommendations??? Is the Awesome Hook better??

I'm actually getting the Scorchin on Monday, I have an Awesome Hook Already.  The Scorchin should be less angular, and check up slightly earlier.  The Hook is a strong asym, whereas the Scorchin' has a symmetrical core.  That is the main difference between the balls, both have very strong covers, the Hook modified pk 18, which many say acts alot like activator maxx, the cover of the Scorchin'.  If you like the S&A i'd say go with the Hook, a similar layout should provide similarly good results in a heavier volume of oil.

It is my understanding that the cover on the Awesome Hook is the same cover as the Total Shock n Awe, which makes sense because after watching both those go down the lane, the only thing that looks different is the backend of the AH.  The Awesome Hood definitely has more backend than the Scorchin with similar layouts.  If you want something to complement the Shock n Awe, go with the Awesome Hook.

i havent seen the a h,but i have seen the scorchin on numereous occassions in the hands of good bowlers, and imho, you could do better. I shot my big one on the same conditions as the scorchin and the scorchin didnt come close to what the big one was doing.

I'd say go with the AH.  The Scorchin' appears to be a good ball, but the core isn't very strong.  The AH core is stronger and should help you get more hook.  Hope this helps.

oob on most shots the Big One will out perform the Scorchin' due to the simple fact that the factory finish of the Big one allows it to match up better to a medium rev player on medium oil.  The I just got a used Big One that I'll be testing with the Scorchin' I'm drilling.

Thanks, Drrev2000.  I decided to go with a TSA to compliment my Shock and Awe.  A buddy of mine picked up the AH and I see that it definitly has more backend and angularity in it.  I prefer a smoother roll and hook.

I've had both.  The scorchin with pin above ring, cg kicked out.  The Awesome Hook with pin below bridge, cg kicked out.  Both have weight holes to cut flare.  The Awesome Hook puts the scorchin to shame!!!  Very strong, very continuous hook.  It even hooked on a PBA pattern where I couldn't play with the scorchin.  Maybe the drilling matched up better, but I would recommend this ball to anyone.  The scorchin only worked on very specific conditions.
