Sahara vs Pioneer
« on: February 08, 2006, 05:14:05 AM »
I want a ball for drier lanes i have a shock and awe and it just over hooks when the lanes get dry. I heard the sahara is still too strong for dry lanes and i have heard good things about the pioneer any suggestions?

pioneer's cover is stronger than than the Sahara's.

The Sahara can be drilled to handle fairly dry lanes very well, AFAIK.

Of course all resin balls need some oil in the heads, no matter what you do.
Once a very mild resin based ball starts hooking early, and you've gone as deep as you can to find some head oil, you just have to start thinking either pearlized urethane or plastic.

charlest, I agree with everything ...but not sure about the Pioneer to be stronger than the Sahara ...I dont' know either, but it doesn't make sense....motor is stronger (much) in the Sahara...and the Punisher cover.....

I'll see if I can find out, I'm interested now!

I guarantee that Super-Flex is stronger than N'Control PowerBoost. It is the equivalent of PK 18.

Despite hearing stories of how others Saharas hook, I drilled mine with the Super Symmetrical 2 drilling and have found it to be perfect for dry lanes.  Might want to consider that layout.  I have alot of hand and that layout has been my 3rd game salvation.

Sahara has very good length on dried-up shots, but the core is very strong! Drill it for length and not too strong - once this baby starts to move it does so relentlessly. On dry shots you might have problems getting to the pocket at all... but I think it is a very good option to switch from a S&A to when it starts to burn up. I's use the same drilling as on the S&A or modify it for some more length - you should be able to change balls and keep up a very similar line.

I have a drill sheet with a Supersymmetrical drilling layout but not the super symmetrical 2 drilling?

How does it differ?

I recently pulled out my Pioneer from retirement, and I am very happy that I did.  For me at least, this ball hits like a tank.  As of late, this has been the first ball that I take out of the bag, every other ball I have is MoRich.  Once I get my tax check, I'm having KOTM drill another Pioneer for me and this one will be for dry lanes.  The one I have now is more of a medium type shot.  While I haven't thrown a Sahara, I have heard good things about it, but in my opinion you can't go wrong if you get a Pioneer.  Plus, if money is tight for you, the Pioneer should be cheaper as well.  I believe the Pioneer is weaker then the Sahara, but I'm not really an expert on the technical stuff.
