QZ2
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
- INNER CORE: Quadfire
- COVERSTOCK: MOTIVator-Z
- FINISH: 4000 Wet Sand / Power Gel Polish
- RG: 16#-2.54 15#-2.55 14#-2.56 13#-2.58 12#-2.59 11#-2.70 10#-2.76
- RG DIFFERENTIAL: 16#-.060 15#- .060 14#-.060 13#-.047 12#.050 11#.018 10#.013
- RECOMMENDED LANE CONDITION: Light to Medium Oil
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
- DESCRIPTION: Beat the competition on light to medium oil with the black and blue MOTIV QZ2. It features the Quadfire inner core, MOTIVator-Z Reactive cover, Reverb outer core, and exclusive NeoMark graphics.
The proven Quadfire inner core produces an RG that stores energy for the backend reaction and a differential for controlled track flare. The 15# ball has an RG rating of 2.55 and differential of .043.
The 2-color shell on the QZ2 Quadfire is MOTIVator-Z Reactive. This cover gives you a strong and consistent reaction on light to medium oil.
The Black and Blue Pearl QZ2 is 4000 wet sanded and then polished with Power Gel. This gives it a little more length on the lane than the previous QZ releases.
The Reverb outer core of the QZ2 is a low-density polyester resin with pin piercing hardness and strength. Rather than absorb impact energy, this outer core reverberates energy as it explodes through the pins.
The Black and Blue Pearl QZ2 coverstock is integrated with Silver Pearl NeoMark logo graphics. These graphics are also formulated from MOTIVator-Z reactive urethane so you have a consistent reaction 360° around the ball surface.

I am a relatively new Motiv staff member, but with each new bowling ball released, I become a bigger and bigger fan of the philosophy behind Motiv's ball design.

Now for the good stuff....

As with all Motiv balls, the QZ2 is very eye-catching out of the box. The navy blue/black cover pared with silver graphics make it an attractive addition to any pro shop's wall and any bowler's bag.

Not only does the QZ2 look good, it rolls fantastic!

I'm a medium-high rev rate player with the ball speed to match. I laid out my first QZ2 like one of my Red QZ1s just so I could compare apples to apples. I did a 4 1/4" pin to PAP low (under the fingers) with a balance hole on the VAL 2" below my axis, or for those who like the dual angle method: a 35, 4 1/4", 55. Seeing as how the core/cover combination was the same, I didn't expect very much difference between the QZ1 and QZ2. I was pleased to see that I was wrong. The factory cover preparation made the QZ2 significantly cleaner through the front part of the lane. I also saw it being smoother downlane as well. I tend to think this has to do with the pigment of the ball. Darker balls seem to be a be a touch smoother than other balls of equal performance with lighter or brighter covers. That being said, the QZ2 is a great ball for when the heads burn up and the track fries. Because the Quadfire core is so versatile, and the Black/Blue MOTIVator-Z coverstock is darker, I believe this ball has even more options for "surface tweaking" to manipulate reaction than the QZ1s do.

Overall I'm very impressed with the QZ2, and can't wait to see what MOTIV has coming next!

"Made in the USA"

The QZ2 is the 3rd release of the MOTIV QZ series of balls. The Quadfire core combined with the MOTIVator-Z-cover has produced another hit. The QZ2 provides a strong but controllable reaction on light to medium oil patterns. The factory finish between the series of balls allows you to explore a wider range of entry angles to the pocket without sacrificing your hitting "power".

I drilled my QZ2 with a pin under layout, OOB surface with a 2-3 pin. The smooth clean length through the front of the lane allows you to make smaller adjustments as you chase the "shot". Compared to my QZ1 (red), that is drilled up with the exact same layout, my QZ2 allows me to play the drier part of the lane a lot longer before I am forced to switch to a less aggressive ball. They both compliment each other very well and will give most bowlers that one-two punch they are looking for in the MOTIV line of balls for medium to light oil patterns.

MOTIV has did it again......This is a ball that I would recommend that every bowler have in their bag for when the time is just right!

COMMENTS

Likes: Love the color combination, I really liked the purple and the red the now the Blue fits where Motiv has been lacking,  Longer stronger reaction in the mid performance category.   The QZ2 reminds me of my TZ3 but slightly weaker in the backend of the lane due to overall core strength.
Had great success playing up the lane Kegels Middle of the Road pattern with this ball.  Ball just floated through the heads and gave me all the hook I needed to get back to the pocket without over reacting in the backend.
House patterns, I have had good look playing the track but liked the reaction better once the lane burns up so I can get in a little deeper.
Overall the ball looks and rolls great, a afforable entry that shouldn't be overlooked.

COMMENTS
I throw the ball about 16-17 mph and am between a tweener and cranker.   I am a right hander that likes to throw the ball over 4th arrow so this was a little different.  I used this ball for the first time on the cheetah pattern and shot 832 out of the box.  The ball started up when I got it right and pushed when I pulled it.  I played standing 11 board playing 3 board but could pull it to 7 board and it would hold since there was more oil at that point.  I drilled this ball with pin under the middle finger with cg kicked to the right a little.  The pin was a 3" with a 5 1/2"  drilling.  I love how this ball lays off on the backend and hits like a freight train.  Then the next time I used this was 1 week later on a ths and shot 827 and 1104 for 4 games in the match play tournament the association held.  I was standing on 15 board throwing 7 board.  Just absolutely killing the pins.  I can't wait to throw this again.

Medium/high revs & High speed. about 45* rotation

I drilled my qz2  with a 50x50@5'  with the OOB surface. Playing about straight up 8 on a THS, The QZ2 for me clears the heads extremely easy and gets through the mids before making a massive angular move on the backends for me. I have had very good success with this ball. I also find it very easy to make the transition with this ball without losing carry. I would highly recommed this ball to any bowler new or advanced.

LANE CONDITION

Length: 41 feet

Volume: unknown

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

Likes: Very clean through the front, predictable back end reaction, doesn't go sideways

Dislikes: can be over/under on heavier volumes, but this wasn't the ball's intent anyway.

I am most likely to use this piece when the fronts begin to burn up and I am having a hard time getting stronger core/covers to retain energy. This ball will probably not even be a factor on heavier/longer patterns as this is not what I drilled it for. I ideally see this piece shining in the later rounds and burn squads of any medium to short patterns. It will also be really good for the fresh light volume shots I encounter. Lastly, this ball is phenomenal on your typical house shot esp. if you prefer to play more closed, direct angles. You can stay in the track area and keep your moves simple and to a minimum. You may need to sand this ball to 1000 grit and re-apply polish if you like playing a little deeper. This is attributed to the ball being a little sensitive to oil when in its box finish, this is common on most THS where there is a puddle in the middle of the lane.

DRILLING:

I lay out my equipment using dual angle layouts. My axis point is 3 3/8 over and 5/8 up. my axis tilt is 10 degrees, ball speed is 18 mph, and my rev rate is in the 350 rpm range.

That being said the layout is 50 x 4.5 x 70 with no extra hole. I also "dusted" the cover stock with a used 2000 abralon pad to break the polish just a little bit.
