Any luck with the Primal?
« on: March 13, 2011, 09:49:22 AM »
From the hype I heard on the ball pre-release it sure has been awful quiet since it has hit the shelves. Anybody have success with them?

I drilled 2 out for customers with what I considered to be pretty good THS layouts and both are struggling with the ball. It's my opinion that the coverstock is just too strong and the balls are burning up. The coverstock on these feels a lot like the old Granite Gargoyle...very textured. I took the one down to 1000 grit, then 2000 and polish and it's better but his QZ1 purple is still outhooking the Primal.

Any pro shop guys drilled any and what layouts are working?

I have had success with the pimal both OOB and polished....I prefered to polish the ball as I was leaving too many 9 pins...but I have noticed if the lanes get too dry the ball tends to try to roll out if it doesnt see enough oil.  My ball is drilled 50x50@5'.... I wouldnt recommend a strong drilling if you are not going to see enough oil...

I have had great success with the Primal so far.Shot a 300/752 last week. This ball is the
perfect ball for flatter patterns.Used it on flatter patterns and med/oily patterns.Put it away
on mediums. If you are rev dominate with slower ball speed put it away on THS,unless
you can move deeper into the oil.A lot of speed dominate players and power players
with good speed are finding the TV4 to their liking.

One question that needs to be asked about the bowlers using the Primal is, are they a high rev or low rev player?

For high rev bowlers the surface may need to be adjusted. In a recent post about the Primal, the high rev bowler will see a smooth reaction to the ball. Where a low rev bowler will see a more angular action out of the ball.

My Primal I was getting too much length for my liking so I took a green scotch bright to the ball. Shot 300 with it that night. It wasn't that the ball was burning up, it is just the design of the cover. High rev players will love this ball later in the sets as the lanes break down.

Thanks for the replies folks....he is a medium to low rev player with average speed. Like most bowlers this guy likes to play around the 2nd arrow. The ball just never showed signs of making a move hence the reason I was thinking "early burn."

As stated I did tweak the cover and polish the ball. It reacts better than before but he still wants more. I am thinking I will go the other way and take it to 1000 without polish and see how he likes it then.

Thanks again for the help folks....
