Are the Sigma Sting & Tribal Fire a good 1-2 combo?
« on: January 18, 2015, 05:10:23 PM »
I recently bought these two balls but I haven't drilled them yet. Since both balls are listed on the Motiv website as "moderate" hook, one for light to medium oil and the other one to medium oil I thought that they will make a great 1-2 combo. But lately I've been reading that the Tribal fire is more of a THS killer, benchamark, medium oil ball than a light to medium since it is stronger than other balls listed under the same category. (I read almost exactly the same about the Sigma Sting)

My question is, are these two balls a good combo? Are these two balls complements each other? I'm a left handed bowler and since I usually don't see enought breakdown, I'm afraid these two balls can be more similar to what I wanted/needed. I don't want to have two "almost the same" balls, since I'm looking to have 2 different balls for 2 different conditions. I hope that I explanied myselft properly.

The thing is, that I have a small problem moving to the right chasing the oil (I tend to walk towards left at the end of my release) I'm working on that, but I rather stay in the same spot for as long as I can, that's why I'm looking for something that can help me when my Aura Paranormal or my Sigma Sting will be too much. I would like to play outside, no more inside than the 2nd arrow... In that case, would you recommend the Venom over the two tribals?

This is no different than 99% of the THS lefties I have seen. LOL

With me being a right hand bowler, you and I are in different worlds as far as THS play goes. This is probably a question for an experienced left hander here who knows the Motiv products.

One place you can probably find your best answer to that question would be the forum on MotivBowling.com

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I don't want to steer you wrong on something I don't know.  ;D

Lol at least is good to know that I'm not alone!

Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it!

I tried on that forum but it takes days and sometimes weeks to get a response!

Having the Sigma Sting, I can say that is a killer ball for THS.  I can also say that it is one of the best benchmark balls I've thrown to date.  The Tribal Fire will compliment it pretty well as the overall core/cover combo tend to favor more of medium-light volumes.

The Sigma Core is actually a lower RG core at 2.47 with the diff of .047.  The Tribal Fire with its Halogen Core has an RG of 2.55 and diff of .037.  What this all means is that the Sigma Sting will rev up earlier and react to the dry quicker compared to the Tribal Fire revving up later and reacting to the dry slower.

So basically they are a good combo based on the numbers.  Start with the Sigma Sting and once it starts to be too much ball, go to the Tribal Fire.

I do have different layouts on both Sting and Fire....but found they play very close to each other...at least on my house shot.  So I was a little disappointed to have too much of an overlap.  So I ended up really polishing up the Fire and it actually now makes those 2 a perfect 1-2 punch for that condition.  When the Sting starts reading too early I can go to the Fire, and it is just enough to help clear the heads a bit without having to move much at all.  The Sting is new to me, and really liking that ball a lot!
