ball above the tag
« on: August 15, 2015, 03:14:24 PM »
First off, I love the Tag. It goes long and has a huge backend. My best results are playing deep and swinging the ball. For the first game and a half, I need a stronger ball to play deep with. The lanes start off with a medium amount of oil at best. With 5 man teams playing, the lanes breakdown pretty fast. Which ball would give me the same look as the Tag to begin with? After looking at ball ratings, would the remix be the best choice. I was also looking the venom shock but didn't know if it was too similar to the tag.

My shock is at least 5-7 boards stronger than my Tag. My Tribal Fire at 4k is in between them both and much smoother.

How does that forza fit?

My Forza is about the same strength as my Shock, but different motions. The Forza is smoother on house, which can yield some carry issues from the angles I play. I find that Motiv's high end balls work great on flatter patterns while the midrange and lower are ths killers. I just got my hands on a Redline and oh boy! This ball will make a lot of Sting owners happy.

I think on ths the Vengeance is a great compliment to the tag.  Too much separation in sport/flat shots but not THS

How about the venom panic? I haven't really heard too much about this ball. Is it a good step above the tag?

I think I'd suggest the Revolt Vengeance or the original Primal Rage if you can get one. It's not as strong as the Jackal or Remix but still stronger to have more separation between it and the Tag.

I'd still consider the Venom Shock also I'm just not sure if it'd give you exactly what you want to play deep

Ideally, the Tribal Fire would be the normal ball up for the Tag.  The Tribal Fire is a little more angular than what the spot on the ball chart would insinuate.  Only down side is a lot of people had the ball as hit-or-miss.  Could be because of the angularity, but I am not sure.

The Tribal Remix is a significantly stronger ball than the Tag and so is the Vengeance.  I personally think that is too big of a step.  The newer Forza Redline could be an option, but it will be a little smoother than the Tag.

The Venom Panic would be closer in strength to the Tag, but on THS it would be real close in overall strength depending on layout and pattern.

The forza and shock for me are similar on a ths except the forza is a tad stronger. But when I throw them on a sport shot the difference is greatly increased. The forza plays many lines on heavier pattern while the shock does not become versatile til medium - light oil patterns.
The venom panic tho I think would be a good step up for the tag. It won't be a big change on a house shot but on a sport shot the panic does its job being a few boards stronger than the tag. Pretty similar shape wise.

Shock if u want smooth a bit stronger than tag. Forza stronger smooth and better for medium to high oil. Panic I think would be best step up from tag in general.

Panic for me is earlier and stronger overall than the tag. Tag is a perfect step down when I need more length.

Layouts will play a factor. My tag has a longer pin to pap than my panic. (3.5" vs 4.5")

I ordered the panic today. My house rarely lays down anything heavier than medium so I figured that the panic and tag would be a good 1-2 punch.
