Best Motiv Ball for House Shot
« on: August 04, 2014, 11:57:28 PM »
With the upcoming league season on the horizon, I am looking into trying out Motiv. My intention for the ball will be to use it on my house shot leagues. Our house shot is medium/slightly heavy oil, not real sharp back-ends and not a ton of friction to the right. Typical shot is laydown around 17-20 out to 6-9.

My rev rate is around 380, speed is 17 mph off my hand and 15 at the spot. PAP at  4 7/8 by 3/4 up.

Wondering if anyone had a good suggestion for a ball and possibly layout that would work most nights on our league shot?

Thank you!

Primal Rage fits that to a T. Definitely strong enough overall, and will help creaate some entry angle for you on the back. If you want something that will be a little more even, maybe a Sigma Sting, but the Rage would definitely be my first suggestion.

primal rage is the only good ball that motiv has ever made.

every other one of their releases have been a dime a dozen.  this is the motiv ball that people are still talking about/using a year later.

I assume you haven't thrown many? I don't think this statement would be made by anyone who's thrown more than probably...the Rage, and one other one that they didn't match up with.

The Shock, for instance, is probably the best ball I've ever thrown. Not to mention how well all of them perform in their intended way, on their intended shot. Their dedication to performance is unmatched. That's where their focus is, and I for one, appreciate that.

Really hard question to answer...

To me, the Sigma Sting is just an incredibly good ball.  Absolutely love mine.  My teammate has one as well and barely uses it.

I also have a revolt that I don't care for much.  Barely gets used.  My teammate has two, one of which is the best rolling ball he owns.

The mix of layout, lane condition, and bowler specs makes a huge difference.  My teammate and I even have similar specs (both have plenty of revs but high ball speed that over powers the rev rate, I have slightly higher tilt than him) and bowl on the same conditions, and we are getting vastly different experiences with the balls.  A good pro shop that knows your game and the lanes would be much better equipped to answer.

For a benchmark league ball, you can't go wrong with the Sigma Sting.  I absolutely love mine because of the versatility and it allows me to play multiple patterns/angles well.  I've thrown it enough now to consider it as one of the best 3 balls I've ever owned.

The Revolt is also a good ball, and I wouild recommend it for higher volumes as it will let you chase the pattern in.

Primal Rage is the ball I'd recommend.  I've been all Motiv since April and currently have the Rage, Revolt and Octane in my bag.  Every ball has performed and exceeded my expectations.  Motiv's equipment gives me a great read out on the lanes and the strong backend response sets up and drives through the pin deck.  This has increased my strike percentage and helped my scoring consistency.  The angularity I'm get from the Primal Rage and Octane allows me to open up my target lines that I've struggled to play in the past.  I can now move further left to to effectively play the deeper inside lines.  Motiv's done a great job of filling all of the gaps with their current line up.  My arsenal for tournaments and the upcoming season is in great shape and I'm looking forward to fall and winter leagues.

There are very few duds in their lineup, IMO. From strong oil pieces to skid flip to urethane, it's all around pretty good.

I realize this isn't the first time it's happened and certainly won't be the last, but I never fail to be amazed by the idiots who come on here and bash a companies product when the poster has only asked for a ball that may best fit them, from that company, on the condition they plan to use it on. What prompts these guys to make such foolish remarks? Every guy including myself, has some companies that don't match up to their games. I would never feel a need to bash that company when a person is asking about it. Motiv has a solid line of equipment and (for me) has stuff that never fails to fit my game. I will stick to what I said originally, the Primal Rage is a ball that will meet your needs.

Right on the mark with your comments TDC.  I use equipment from multiple companies and some matches up to my game while others not so much.  I've only started rolling Motiv at the end of last season but I know this for sure, their stuff suits my game extremely well.  I don't see any need to bash other ball companies because I'm still satisfied with gear from Storm/Roto, Brunswick, Columbia and 900 Global.

Well said, and couldn't agree more.
