As the title says last night bought a TX-1. The shop had at it as a comp ball and was able to get it cheap. Im having it plugged and re-drilled. I chose to lay it out 12 o'clock. I am interested to see the look I will get out of it. I will try to update after the weekend on my thoughts.

The TX1 is probably the tamest ball in the motiv line-up. It should be very smooth rolling on drier lanes. Let us know how it goes.

I would accept that as one person's opinion, not the general fact. It might have a lot to do with ball speed and drilling. A friend said that about the SX-1: very mild ball, very urethane-like. I liked my SX-1 a lot more and also found it more powerful than he did.

I just drilled a TX-1, 4.5x4, pin in ring finger, CG stacked below. I only used it once so far and found it easily handled a medium to medium-heavy oil pattern, throwing pins around quite well, with the stock surface.

The OP's 12:00 drilling might show similar results if the pin is above the fingers, or more hook and oil handling if it is below. But who knows what the drilling really is since we don't know PAP, ball speed, tilt etc about the OP.

I just picked up a used TX-1 on Ebay. Based on all of the reading I have done on this and other sites I expected the ball to give me a bit more reaction than a urethane. That is NOT the case. With the shiny box finish this ball will skid in the oil and bounces off the friction pretty strong. As long as there is a spot to throw this ball to it will turn fairly hard. For me, I would have to change the surface for truly heavy oil but for most medium to heavy patterns this will make a good step down ball after the lanes start to open up.

I'm VERY interested in the varied experiences with TX1's. I've heard so many people talk about how tame it is. I have not seen that at all. In fact, I think it's the most angular piece in the Motiv arsenal to date. There are some patterns where it will rival the total hook of anything in my bag. It is so angular that I gave one away and redrilled the other.

While on the topic, I drilled one with the pin under the thumb and dulled it to 500 grit and it was AWESOME on the nationals pattern in practice.

Mine is setup with the pin under the bridge. CG just to the right a little. Using the dual angle it would be about 65 x 5.25 x 70 small weight hole at P3. I have a TR-2 drilled the same way and really like the reaction. Since I purchased it used I am not sure exactly the finish on the cover stock. It is shined up but not quite as shinny as OOB finish. Maybe 1000+ with a little polish if I had to guess.

I wouldn't describe my TX1 as tame either. Plenty of controllable power with a hard arcing motion. Great ball on medium conditions for me.
