Motiv drilling suggestions
« on: March 08, 2016, 10:18:12 AM »
So I just decided to give Motiv a try again (one and only ball I've ever thrown was a QZ1) I recently purchased a Jackal, Primal Rage, and Venom Shock thinking they will cover a majority of shots that I'll see. Just looking for some input on the types of drillings I should use to maximize their potential as well as to combat most conditions.

Here is a link of me bowling.

Thanks for any help!

I went to all Motiv last year and I put some different layouts on my balls trying to make sure they did what I wanted. I think it was a mistake.

Motiv seems to do a very good job of getting the characteristics of the ball into the core and cover.  The balls tend to do what they say they do and their ball chart is pretty good regarding how each ball compares to eachother.

Look at their videos.. Most show 3 different layouts and ball motions.

I would say to just put your favorite drill on each ball and let the cover and characteristics take over.

You might want to go different with an asymmetrical layout that works best for you on the Jackal if you tend to have issues with asymmetricals

I was thinking of doing the same drilling on each just wanted someone with experience with the equipment to give input so I know I'm making a good decision. Thank you I truly do appreciate it!

I have the rage and Shock and they are both good balls. You should see enough of a difference out of them to be useful on different conditions.  I always drill so that I can put a weight hole to influence the reaction if needed.

Also, the MOtion hole seems to work well in a lot of the Motiv symmetrical balls if you are looking for increased motion and continuation on the back end.

You might want to look at a weaker piece for drier conditions if you ever see them.  All of the balls you have a fairly strong.. Rage strong off the spot.. Shock earlier rolling... and of course the Jackal is strong...

The Shock isn't that weak of a ball.

both tweak well with surface changes though.

I'm looking into getting one of the Jackals.

Couldn't agree more to what you said, on Motiv being able to get the characteristics of the ball into the cover and core.

I have the Paranoia, Octane, Forza, Ascent Pearl and Venom Shock all drilled with the same layout with MOtion hole (not a big fan of assymetric balls). All of them work differently on the same oil condition.

So it's just a matter of matching which ball for what oil condition, and letting the coverstock and core do the work.
