New to Motiv; starting 5/6 ball arsenal suggestions
« on: March 18, 2015, 02:11:15 PM »
New to Motiv, coming over from Storm/Roto and Brunswick/Radical.

I'm looking to start a 5 or 6 ball arsenal. These balls will be used on synthetic lane surfaces with these conditions:

42 med/heavy vol THS
39 med vol THS
PBAX League

My Delivery Specs:
Right Handed
Matched/Slightly Speed Dominant
Speed= 15.5mph (monitor) 18mph off hand
Revs= 285-315
Axis Tilt= 13*
Axis Rotation=50*
PAP = 5" over x 1/4" up
Med-High track

I'm thinking about getting the following:
Covert Revolt
Forza
Octane
Venom Shock
Venom Panic

and maybe a Jackal or a Vengeance or a new graffiti tag

What do you guys think? Suggestions? What are the must have Motiv balls? If you were going to start from scratch and build a motiv arsenal what would you do?

If I had to start with a 5-6 ball arsenal I'd start off with

jackal
revolt
rage
shock
ascent/graffiti

I may add in a panic, but I'm not a big fan of the ball, to me this ball doesnt hit properly. Theres no ball that I consider a must have since you can make a ball do different things with hand/speed, but id say the shock is the must have, but I did take out the octane from the list because it seemed to be a very over/under ball and people didnt like it as much

Vengeance, Forza and Venom Panic to start.  If you can find a Sigma Sting, that would be benchmark. Seems that most folks say Motiv's lineup is generally stronger than advertised, so take that into consideration as you see it for yourself.

Choice on med/light is yours with maybe Tribal or Graffiti Tag.

I don't have a need for a Jackal in my area, and it is interesting that the PBA guys like the Vengeance as top ball (hook rating wise) in their arsenal's on TV.

I also don't see too much of a need for the Jackal as long as you are close to being matched in revs/speed.

For the THS side of things:

Vengeance, Venom Shock and either the Tribal or Graffiti Tag (depending on seeing it live)

For the sport shot add-ons:

Forza, Primal Rage and Covert Revolt

Obviously that kinda leaves the extremes out but to be honest I don't see a need for someone with your stats from needing the Jackal and the Ascent Apex is really too strong to be considered a true dry-lane piece.  I could see an original Ascent pearl on the bottom, but depending on the number of games your sport league has, I doubt you will need a true dry-lane piece.

Edit:  A lot of people haven't had a lot of luck with the Octane and I am not yet sure of the Venom Panic quite yet.

I absolutely agree with the Forza, Primal Rage and Covert Revolt.  Having a Covert Revolt, it is excellent when you have longer/heavier patterns yet is still smooth and controllable.  Primal Rage is great when you need a lot of backend and the Forza is a great all around ball.

For THS, definitely consider the Venom Shock.  That ball is versatile and will give you a lot of options on how to play the lanes.  Below that, any of the Tribals would fill in on your medium-light patterns and then go to the Ascent if you need a ball for the desert.  The Apex will be stronger than advertised however.

If you can still snag a Sigma Sting, pick one up.  That is an awesome pearl that has a reputation of being a killer benchmark ball.
