Possible backlash from the Native American community - Motiv Tribal

A friend who is on staff with Motiv posted a Picture for the Motiv Tribal on his Facebook Page, another friend who is a Native American Indian protested the ball's Name & Logo saying it offended him, so friend #1 Removed the Ad, is there any info from the Motiv community on this possible subject, does the name Tribal or the Logo with it apply to any Tribe in North America or is it just like the kids that used to get Tribal Tattoo's, it doesn't really mean anything?

The word Tribal is not necessarily relegated just to Native Americans, as the term "Tribe" could be attributed to many cultures and nationalities.  The Native American Indian is not the first and only people to be a part of tribal culture.  Now had the name referred to a particular "Tribe" is some type of derogatory way, that might open up the door for some discussion.

In my opinion, the guy/or gal who got offended is really "reaching".

+1 there's nothing even remotely close to actual native american culture.  Some people just need the attention.

The style writing and design is more celtic then anything. Id have to ask if the person is celtic american otherwise they need to learn their heritage better.

I don't think the Native American community has a monopoly on the word, "Tribe". It seems that the design comes from tribal tattoos.

TRIBE     could also  refer to one of the 12 tribes of Israel....it could.

Tribe (if I harken back to my college days), if I'm correct, is an anthropological social classification / term.

It is NOT the labeling of a particular group, rather, the structuring thereof.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and I don't necessarily disagree with the fact that some people seem to go around looking for situations about which they can be offended. However, who are you and I to tell someone else that they shouldn't be offended by something?

In the case of the Storm picture, I just that was a dumb thing to post because it serves to purpose, and it has the potential to offend. That's not a wise thing for any business to do. The post here about an actual person of Native American Indian heritage being offended by the name and logo of this ball is quite different to me. I'm not Native American Indian, so I have no idea what it feels like to deal with the issues connected thereto. The person who was offended does have that background from which to draw, so who the heck am I to tell him or her not to be offended about such a thing?

I think some people go too far in terms of looking for things to get upset about, but I think others go equally far in trying to tell others what they can and can't be upset about.

I agree. Anything to complain or get attention is all it ever is now a days. That or a way looking to sue and make money the garbage way(unless truly valid reason).
