Primal Fear #strikefear
« on: October 31, 2016, 03:32:16 PM »
DESCRIPTION

INNER CORE - Impulse V2â„¢
COVERSTOCK - Voracity Pearl Reactive
FINISH - 5000 Grit Laser Scan Polish
RG RATING - 2.55 (15 lbs)
RG DIFFERENTIAL - 0.50 (15 lbs)
FLARE POTENTIAL - 5"+

REACTION

The Primal Fear is designed for medium heavy oil and is long and angular. The new Voracity pearl cover combined with the Impulse V2 core give this ball length and continuation through the pins. I have found that it reads the lane quite well and responds favorable to surface changes.

COMPARISONS

In my video I compared the Primal Fear to the Primal Rage, Primal Rage Remix, Paranoia, and Forza GT. As you'll be able to see in the video, the Primal Fear has a reaction all onto itself. It fits squarely between the Remix and the Rage. The Remix has more overall hook potential while the Rage isn't as strong off the spot. The Forza GT is earlier and smoother than the Fear with less hook potential. The Paranoia shares a similar shape with the Fear but is easily 4-5 boards weaker than the Primal Fear. As with all of our releases, synergy plays an important role. With our current releases, I have found a lot of success going from my Trident to the Primal Fear. They work extremely well with one another when dealing with transition. As the lane continues to break down, I can go from the Primal Fear to the Paranoia without missing a beat.

SUMMARY

The Primal Rage had a good run with Motiv, but the times are a changing and it was time for an upgrade. The Primal Fear is more than a worthy successor, it improves on everything that made the Rage great. The Voractiy cover on the Fear provides length with less over/under than the Rage. As stated earlier, the cover responds very well to surface changes. Adding polish will allow you to play steep inside angles while still being able to get out the corner pins. By taking the cover down to 2000 sanded, you can play more shallow angles up the lane without worry of overreacting. I firmly believe the Primal Fear is able to excel on a multitude of different conditions with minimal surface changes. It's more versatile than any angular ball I've previously thrown.

I have a 12# Primal Fear on the way to replace my 13# Primal Rage which has become too heavy for me anymore.

BTW ... Nice video ...

Now you are talking. I've really come to love my Paranoia after not giving it much love when I first got it. A stronger cover on that core could be a great ball.

I seem to be one of the very few Motiv fans who weren't/aren't thrilled by the Primal series.

I didn't get my free sample pack in the box. Neither did my wife.

What gives?
Balls: Motiv Trident Abyss, Motiv Golden Jackal, Motiv Hydra and Motiv Hyper Sniper. All made in the USA.

Ball is a purple and green mix with pink and black logos.4k box finish. I'm thinking that this will replace the forza on the ball chart

Motiv Primal Fear

Motiv Bowling has introduced the New Primal Fear. I drilled my Primal Fear just like i drill all my symmetrical balls (65 x 4 1/2 x 35). I love this layout because it gives me plenty of flare without sacrificing down-lane hook for my style. For this release i went with a pin up layout. I have used this layout on a lot of previous balls like the Motiv Primal Rage and Motiv Primal Remix. The Primal Fear is the 6th generation Primal. It introduces the new Voracity Pearl Reactive Coverstock , which raps around the same dual density Impulse V2 Symmetric Core as used on the Primal Rage Remix, Primal Rage and Primal Scream. The box finish is a 5000 grit LSP (Laser Scan Polished). The Primal Fear has RG of 2.55 with 0.050 differential. The Primal Fear is stronger in the midlane and can handle more oil than the Primal Rage. Also the Primal Fear has a very continuous motion through the pins. The Motiv Paranoia and the Primal Rage to had similar ball motion,  where as i didn't use my Primal Rage as much. The Paranoia and Primal Fear is a great compliment to each other, when my Paranoia can't create enough shape the Primal Fear will be your go to ball to handle more oil. If your looking for something that is clean through the midlane and continues through the pins, the Primal Fear is the ball for you.

I don't see how the Chronic will replace the Forza when the GT has almost identical stats to the Forza.

If you were to say the Chronic will replace the Forza Redline, then yes, I agree.

I posted that before the ball chart was released, or even any ball info at all. It won't replace the redline due to cover.

My bad, didn't recognize the date.  To be honest, didn't realize it was you either.  I trust your assessment of manufacturer information more than most.

I due appreciate that. I've spoken with a few staffers and the ball is "different" than the GT, but I won't pick one up because it's only a board or two. It is a little longer, but once again, not really enough to justify a spot in my bag. But if you don't have the GT, it's an option for the medium hole in a bag.
