Anyone shoot the HOINKE this season?

Has anyone bowled the HOINKE this season?  I know the tourney just started but was curious as to how the lane conditions were this season?  Last season the lanes were really dry.

by the end of the day i was standing on 37 throwin to 29 with my breakpoint at about 20. in otherwords, make sure you have something that is meant for dry lanes.  otherwise, the first few games you will be fine.

I just returned after bowling this weekend.  There was a puddle in the middle and  it felt like a THS.  Some of the scores put up in my squad reflected it.  Getting to the pocket was very easy, it was just a matter of finding the right matchup to carry the corners.  There was definitely more oil on the lanes than during the times I visited last year.

I heard second hand that they put a lot more oil out this year than previous years, with some sort of OOB.  

My experience has always been not that they don't put out oil, but it doesn't seem to last very long.  The fresh is actually pretty nice, but it tends to break down fast.  The re-oil they do in the middle of the day helps for about 5 frames.  The one thing I've always noticed over the years is the lack of pin action.  I don't know if they have old pins, or the sidewalls aren't friendly or what, but I always see a lot of strange leaves.  Lots of 9-10s and other oddities on decent pocket hits.

I shot the HOINKE this past weekend.  The pattern this year is very different than the previous years.  There's more oil on the lanes this year.  The pattern was kind of strange. There's a lot of oil in the middle but from 15 to 8 seemed medium and then more oil from 7 to gutter.  

I seen one guy just tear the place up playing the track area.  He kept switching balls so he could stay in the track area.  Sounds like that's a good strategy for this tourney.

The lanes did break down a good amount during the team event but were very scoreable.

I only bowled 13 games this past weekend but will be going back in the middle of May to bowl many more.  I should do pretty well when I go back since I know how to approach the pattern and what to expect.

I don't think one needs to bring a lot of equipment to the HOINKE this season.  Just bring a heavy, medium and light oil ball and you should be set.

On a side note:  Usually the HOINKE is famous for leaving ten pins for a righty.  This past weekend that didn't seem to be a problem.  I expect the scores to be high this year.  The high rev guys put up some very big scores.

I just got back from bowling there this weekend and it looked to me like there was a lot more oil then some people have posted. I bowled 13 games this past weekend and never threw anything but my cell. I was standing on 25 and throwing right over third arrow( I am a righty with pretty high revs). I thought that the shot was pretty good, but did leave that famous ten pin once in a while. There was a little bit of out of bounds. It seemed to me that if I got the ball wide earlie it had no trouble getting back, but if you missed wide late, you were going to leave a wash out.
Just my observations, hope this helps some people.

Exactly what I seen when I was there in April.

I'm going back this weekend with a couple squads.  I know the pattern should be the same as it was back in April but the weather may change it a bit.  I think the scores are going to be high this year.

What did you find in your additional squads?
I bowled this over Mother's Day weekend and failed to see anything that I would consider a serious amount of oil.  This to me played like a THS with a little deeper puddle in the middle.  I was actually disappointed...I thought they were going to be flooded.

My 2nd trip down didn't seem to have as much oil.  Your right about it playing like a house shot with a big puddle in the middle.  However if you sent the ball wide late down lane then your screwed but if sent wide early there was plenty of bounce.

Still found the best time to shoot was the noon squad.  The lanes seem to be the best at the time each day.  After that the lanes dried up so fast that it became pretty difficult to score consistantly.

Dudes went in Feb. and mr hoinkie himself said you should be able to bank it off 5. haha... the machine must of been broke because it was hard to hook it 5 boards. if you swung it out to the ditch... goose egg.. is what you got. Though it sounds like they changed the pattern. Me and 40 other bowlers donated that weekend. High game for 9 games was 245 for everyone.

I went at the begining of April and again in May.  On my first trip down, the lanes had a good amount of oil and were more difficult to play than my 2nd trip down.  In May the weather was warmer and the lanes were very nice.  Noon was the best time to score because the lanes were more open.

I was out there last weekend and if there is one thing you should bring it's a smooth controllable ball.  There seemed to be some hold in the middle and outside of 5 was out of play unless you went straight up.  For me the track was very jumpy on anything but fresh oil.  It didn't have a whole lot of miss room in the track, probably 3 boards to play with.  The guys with more revs will be able to swing it a bit, just had to keep it inside of 5, and they seemed to have more area than I did.

I ended up shooting bad, lots of splits from my stuff jumping high, and a couple of easy spare misses.  I just couldn't find a shot with hold area that would last more than a few frames.  If I were any good at playing a tight inside line I probably would have shot much better.
