***Waving hand vigorously***

Wait a minute...I don't have to think about it because I kinda put a dent on his 28-1 (or so) match play record...that's right...he's 28-2 now thanks to this guy!

This guy also went on to grind his way to a sweeper title on the U.S Open!

I'm now...give or take...1-11 lifetime against Mr. McCune...moving up the chain one link at a time

On edit: I should have probably mentioned that Gene gave me a little coaching lesson a few weeks back during a schlacking he gave me in match play...and the coaching payed off a little too well

Apparently not too many people can make this claim around the Midwest...he just swept through match play at the regional in Sterling Heights, Michigan...I think he has three regional titles this summer already...along with a 2nd and 3rd place to go along with those...I could use a run like that

Eugene is tough No doubt Extremely Talented but after having bowled 3 games in a Friday Evening sweeper and 8 games next to him in a regional I came to the conclusion that he is one big whiny A**Hole.  He cried and whined after almost every shot and eventually was warned by a tournament official.  Is he a good bowler...Yes is he good for bowling...No

Joe,

I bowled against the young McCune way back in 83-84 when he was first bowling in the adult league with his dad. I had to tell him to wait till I got off the approach before he stepped up. He had talent then and he has a ton of talent now. The only thing that has ever kept Eugene from winning many times on the tour, is Eugene McCune. If he ever got his head right, he would be tough against the big boys and not just against the locals or regionals.

I wanted to add I never had words with Mr McCune.  He did say nice game after I shot 260 but in observing Eugene he acts like a spoiled little kid that needs his backside smacked

yeah gene can be somewhat of a butthead sometime and ship you are so right about him on tour and the level of his success do to his head game...he has really made a change in the last year or so and now has 3 regional wins just this summer.  he and i won our association doubles last year...so i have to be a bit bias toward him...since his 739 and my 801 won me a few bucks!

Kevin,

How about you go up to Eugene and tell him my story and see what his reaction is. We bowled in the old Munster lanes classic league with guys like, Mike Steinbach, Ricky Sajek, Gordy Baer, Jon O'Drobinak?, Kenny Parks, Mike Kubiaki? and other greats. He was just coming into bowling with the big boys and being a McCune didnt help.

Kevin (SunStorm300), kmanestor22, and I have had the opportunity to be around Gene on a week to week basis this summer due to the above mentioned sweeper.

I think we have a unique opportunity compared to most people who are not fans of Eugene (over the years I've seen quite a few on this board).  I think we would all agree that Gene has settled down a bit, especially this season.  I've never seen him so relaxed while bowling.  And his summer record this season locally and regionally wise definitely shows it.

Another thing we get to see is that Gene is more then willing to help out anyone with their bowling game.  The man holds a tremendous amount of knowledge about the game, and is very acceptable to questions.  As mentioned above in my earlier post, a small tip he gave me a few weeks prior helped me not only beat him, but go on to win the sweeper that night.

I realize many have had rough times with him in the past, but I'll be the first to admit I enjoy bowling around, with, or against Gene.  I see it as a great opportunity to better my game.
