Favorites Pro Shops in the NOVA/DC/MD Area?
« on: February 21, 2008, 06:55:26 AM »

What pro shops do the DC metro area BR members prefer?  I recently move down here and have yet to really find my local driller.  Any idea where I should check out would be great.

Without question you have to check out:

1.World Class Pro Shops run by Gary "Guru" Parsons
2.Carmen Don's/Sports Plus out of Alexandria
3.12 in a Row Pro Shop

Just my 2 cents.

12 in a row.  My boy DP3 works there, just make a post and ask about his skills and see what is said.  The man knows his stuff and can hit a line better than Amy Winehouse!!!

You need to go to Stepp's Glen Burnie Pro Shop next to Bowl America Glen Burnie in Maryland. See Ko Whittington, the only bowler to shoot 800 both right AND left handed in the state. He's the best!!!

It really depends on where you live.  Are you in NoVA or in MD or in DC.  In MD the ones listed are all good there are also a few others.  I have used most of the ones talked about also dont forget Crofton Classic pro shop Warboy does a great job.  I have also used Chantilly pro shop in NoVA with no issues.  In baltimore area Stepps is good also I have use Boreland in AMF ritchie with good results.

Just FYI, Richie Wolfe is no longer at the shop in Annandale.  He is managing a center in Warrenton, I believe.

Stepp's overpriced? Stepp's has been in business 30+ years, not possible if you are ripping people off. What's the saying, you get what you pay for! Are you really saving if you have to pay for a ball twice? Once to buy it and then another time so that it feels better on your hand.

Scott inside AMF Ritchie in Glen Burnie,MD is my choice of pro shops in MD.

I have been to many pro shops in the MD/DC area and Scott Boreland is the best.   He does a good job!!  He has drilled several balls for me and each ball fells like the next.  He will try to find the right ball for you. He will find out your style and what house you bowl normally.    I am not sure, but why does he wear a glove on his left hand?   Scott is located inside AMF Ritchie in Glen Burnie, MD.  It will be worth the ride if you see him and have him drill a ball for you.  How many Pro Shop Operators do you see that wears a glove?

It really doesn’t matter.  Bowling doesn’t have much longer until it is all recreational and Cosmic.  Why spend $230 on a ball with inserts…$3-$5 to practice with it and then you can’t find any decent tournaments to bowl in to make money.

The DC area is trying to keep tournament bowling afloat but let’s be honest here.  If you take the price of all of the expenses compared to these prize funds, it’s just not worth it.  The price of equipment, bags, shoes keeps going up and the interest of bowling in general keeps going down.

The tournament directors are throwing as much to the prize fund as possible, getting sponsors to help and Top 5 barely gets their money back.

Just a dying sport my boyz.  I would much rather spend my time listening to rap music.
