MA State Tournament
« on: April 18, 2006, 11:00:40 AM »
Anyone here bowling the MA State Tournament?

Has anyone bowled their events yet? If so, I am bowling this weekend and am looking to bring the least amount of equipment necessary. Could someone out there give me an idea as to what the lane conditions were like and what squad/time you bowled?

Thanks in advance.

Isn't this weekend the first weekend Ryan??

I haven't bowled at North Bowl in forever, but I hear it's still a wood house.. Why the hell we would bowl our state tournament at such an antiquated center is beyond me..

I have no idea what to expect or what to bring.. I'm bowling singles and doubles Sunday morning on the "fresh" though.. I guess that means there will be a little oil anyway.

You know, I thought about that after I posted this. I think this is the first weekend. I am bowling first squad on Saturday morning. 9 o'clock am for singles and doubles, then I stick around and bowl teams at 3 o'clock. The plus is that I get all the torture and punishment out in one day and I dont have to go back! LOL.

I guess I will have to show up with a good 6-8 balls. Now the question is, which ones??

Chris, I will try to get on here Saturday night or Sunday and let you know how it was. I will say this much though, if I begin to bowl poorly, there is a good chance that I wont remember much as I will probably start to drown my frustration in beer. Lots and lots of beer!! LOL.

I'm going down there next weekend as well, it would be great if you could let us know how the shot was.  I've been stressing this week on how I should set the surface preps on my balls.  I always seem to struggle at states.  So this year I'm trying to cover the basis but don't want to over think it and have it be something I overlooked, I've been gearing up for a flood.  Last year I didn't get it going until singles and by then it was way too late.  Next year it's at my home center and I'll be working it every weekend so I will try to help out.  Ohh yeah we're an all wood house as well.

I will definitely report back with what the shot is like.

I am also trying to guage what equipment to bring. I'm trying to avoid bringing more than 7 balls with me. That includes my spare ball. So, I'd have 6 balls at my disposal to use. I am thinking that I will bring the following:

Track Phenom Unleashed 2 - Heavy
Track Rule Delta 1 - Med/Hvy
Track Xception 5.0 - Med
Track Freak-a-zoid - Med
Track Xception or Red Slash - Med/Light
Track Desert Heat - Dry

Then I would also have my spare ball. I think I could survive with the 6 mentioned above. I am just not sure if I should bring the Xception or Red Slash yet. I am leaning towards the Red Slash because it gets down the lane a bit further and is a bit more controlled. Plus, it's a wood house so my equipment will naturally want to roll earlier. I don't know, what do you guys think?

I've been trying to figure out what I should bring also.. I'm bowling singles and doubles Sunday morning.. I think I may have said that already, but who cares?

Anyway, I'm worried that because it's a wood house still (right?) that they're going to dry out much quicker and I should be bringing stuff like my Super Trooper.. I'll bring a couple of aggressive spheres just in case, but I get the feeling I might not be using them.

You know Joey, you're probably right. Wood houses do dry out quicker. I remember when Somerset was all wood. They used to dry out real quick! Now that you mention that, I don't think I will need anything more aggressive than my Rule Delta 1. Then I will progress downward in aggressiveness from there. Well, I will report back over the weekend with lane conditions and things of that sort.

Ryan, how did you do this weekend??

I bowled on the first squad Sunday morning and played them pretty straight for both singles and doubles.. Shot 675 in doubles and 749 in singles.. Pardon me while I vent for a minute..

Game 1 - 277
Game 2 - 215

X X X 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/ X 9/ 9/X

Light 2 pin in the 4th, solid 9 in the 5th, light 5 pin in the 6th, solid 9 in the 7th, (Yes I'm steamed at this point. haha) solid 10 in the 9th, solid 8 in the 10th.. True story, ask anyone!!

Game 3 - 258

To say that I was a bit peeved when I left was an understatement.. However, after about 15 minutes of the "coulda shoulda" game, I was ok.. I'm taking with me the fact that I bowled well and have ideas as to what I can do a little better when I go back there in a couple weeks.. I sure hope I bowl that well at Nationals..

Anyway, I used "The One" for all 6 games.. I could play between 5 and 10 to be honest.. If you missed out, it would scream back but you were almost guaranteed to ring the dime.. If you missed in, there was a chance you were going to plaque, though I did throw a couple messengers..

I sucked.

579 in singles - Playing up 10 with my GP2/Rule Delta 1
663 in doubles - Playing 15 to 8 with my Mutant Mania. Went 256,243,164. My head started to get a bit light due to the excessive beer drinking at 10:30 in the morning on an empty stomach. LOL. That's my reason for the 164.

Then we had a 3 hour lay off. Came back to bowl teams at 3. There was literally NO OIL on the lanes at this point. My Desert Heat was hooking at the arrows. I used my Cow Vis-a-ball for games 2 and 3 of teams to shoot a whopping 450 something series. We all got so frustrated that we ended up goofing around to see who could throw the ball the hardest. The house has the Quibica scoring system that shows your ball speed. All in all, it was fun.

Advice to all, be sure to have plastic in case you bowl a late squad. They don't re oil!!

Ryan,
So you had your run in with the beer to scoring ratio?  We discussed this one night in one of my leagues, and even came up with a graph, lol.  We showed how an increase in beer led to an increase in scoring.  That is until you reached a certain point, and then for each subsequent beer, your score is negatively impacted.  The graph kind of looked like a cliff at that point.  Haha

Ed, what the hell are you doing thinking about carry?  Use the same philosophy as Thursdays.  Drink beer. Throw ball.  Strike.  lol

ha ha, he'll love that.  Oh, and I don't know what time you were planning on getting there on Thursday, but Linwood is having us get there to start bowling for 6:30.  This way we can get done with everything sooner.  Personally I don't care if we do bowl, but that's just me.  I hope it is done after two games.
