Great ball!  I can play this ball up the boards if I kill it with my hand or on medium oil or less I can open the lane.  You are right, the ball revs big time for a reactive resin ball with no particles.  Goes long and comes back like a monster.  Does not like allot oil....it dies in heavy oil

I ended up getting 3 AZO balls on sale since LM is clearing out the warehouse, but I wouldn't have considered buying them if they were made with the original AZO covers. But since they have LM covers and I'm loving my 2 LM balls so far that's the only reason why I've got them.

Bradley,

What do you mean by that? Is there something wrong with AZO coverstocks? I don't know anything about Lane Masters or AZO.

I just love the Ultima RP. Are all of the ULTIMA RP coverstocks OKAY... or is there just something wrong with some of the other balls from AZO?

I'm confused???

Please explain this piece of information. Some of these AZO balls were designed and made long before Lanemasters bought AZO. AZO was the actual manufacturer even after LM bought them. Sometime thereafter LM took over the actual manufacturing. Which balls are you referring to and how do you know that Lanemaster changed their covers and the design of these balls? Did you talk to Lanemasters management or ? I am very curious. Thanks.

Mine is drilled with the PIN 1" above the ring finger and the CG about stacked below at about 3/4"-1" right of grip center, and no weight hole...

The Ultima RP has the most dramatic backend snap/drive/continuation that any ball can possibly deliver... people that have ordered one... if you don't like them, please let me know and I'll take it off your hands no matter how you drilled it!

They say it's a Medium/Light ball... no way!!! Way too much midlane hook and backend to be used on anything less than pure Medium Oil.

I keep mine at 3000-3500.

It's interesting that you say the coverstocks have changed on recent AZO balls.
I had about 8 AZO balls before LM took them over.  I didn't find the same "forgiveness" in the 2 I bought afterward.  I e-mailed LM and asked what was different.  They did respond, but only to give instructions in how to scuff or polish. So, they did change the coverstock, and for a mediocre bowler who needs some help from the ball(like me) the new doesn't work as well.  Go figure.

Went back and looked up the ball in an old BTM. It's reviewed in April 2003. They gave it an overall hook rating of 36, just below SonicX. Can't recall exactly; think the backend rating was either 13 or 14. They sort of pigeonholed it as a stroker's ball.

BrianN,

Can't wait for you to throw it! This ball's hook will scare you! BTM magazine missed on this ball when they reviewed it BIGTIME!!!

I couldn't resist a close-out either.  I had mine drilled 3 3/8 by 3 3/8.  The first pattern on the drill sheet.  Nothing stellar the first two times I used it, but there seemed to be carry-down.  I decided to use it the first night of new fall league(thinking this would be kinda like sandbagging), but it backfired.  Apparently the lanes had been stripped; the back-ends were flying. I now have to try to maintain a 210 average.(175 last year).
