Legends question. What ball?
« on: March 16, 2006, 12:53:14 AM »
Hi charlest or someone else may be able to help me here.
Ive just been sent a replacement Yeah Baby from Legends due to a slight problem with my own. They were great in dealing with my query by the way.
I have found a way of using my Yeah Baby in a dull state but I cant use it shiney due to the problem I have with it.
Now my question is as I have an Absolute Power and I love it and I have the Yeah Baby for really heavy, what do you think would be a good ball to fit in between.
I can use my AP on most med and a bit lighter so I dont want something weaker than the AP.
My driller who I am very, very loyal to has told me he will let me replace the YB with any of the LaneMaster/ Legends range.
A friend has a NS2 and can use it in my alley on the oil we have for the first 3 games. This is one of the thoughts I have.
Another is the Masterpiece but I already have a Lane#1 Uranium Solid which may be similar, Im not totally sure so someone may help me there.
What Im really leaning towards though is the World Class, not just because its the newest but because its a medium load particle and I have never tried one before.
Sorry its a bit long but I wanted to get you as much info as possible.
Read my profile for my specs if thats any help.
Thanks in advance for any help you can share.

Jeff just what I wanted to hear.
It looked a good fit but I just wanted someone else to see it too.
Thanks.

I have all three.

The New Standard fits perfectly between them.
I haven't seen JS's World Class, yet but I suspect it may fit below the NS and above the AP; not sure exactly where. The NS is a great ball; I have a slight control drill on mine, rather than a power drill. It's a 3x5 type or thereabouts. That's why I'm bringing to Nationals. It handles a wide range of oil from medium+ to almost true heavy.

In dull state, 800-1000 grit, the YB is a MONSTER ball.

Thanks charlest, I would be intested to hear what you think of JS's World Class when you see it in use.
Ive a bit of a dilemma now. It was Masterpiece or World Class. Now Ive had to add the NS to that.
Thanks so far to everyone.

I won't be getting one, but JS has one and loves it. See his post in this forum. He's the only I'd see using it. He bowls after I do tonight, but I can't stay late as my flight to Nationals leaves early tomorrow and I have to finish packing.

The Masterpiece is not as strong (read: oil lover, with early lane bite) as the NS; it's just above the Absolute, but much more of a skid/flip reaction.

Star,

Let me throw another ball into the mix.  The Big Kahuna.  This may be a perfect fit in between your YB and AP and is a great medium condition ball.  I never purchased an NS so I can't say anything about that but you have charlest's and thfonz's take on it that it would also be a good fit.  Personally I never saw the YB to be a heavy oil ball.  I know charlest would tell me that I wasn't throwing it in enough oil or wasn't deep enough but I don't buy it (I can be thick-headed (sometimes) ).  I needed to get that ball into the dry to get it to do anything.  On oil it just kept going and going.  Maybe I had a lemon, who knows.  Here's the order I would list my current Legends/LaneMasters stuff:
- NS2 (rolls early, even arc)
- World Class (easily 5 to 7 boards stronger than BK, much stronger backend, handles carrydown))
- Big Kahuna (early roll, more length than NS2, and stronger backend than NS2)
- Kong (decent length with a hard arc but needs clean backends)
- Masterpiece (once the BK starts to burn up early or starts hooking early I can go to the MP and play my original BK line)
- Satisfaxion (longer than the MP with less backend)

All of my balls are drilled pin under ring, cg kicked out slightly (about 4 1/4 x 3 1/2) and are in oob condition.  Take care....JS
