Original X-Calibur

A buddy of mine still uses it and loves it.  He's had it for almost 10 years, probably over 1000 games on it, he's never cleaned it in his life, and he still averages 215 with it.  Anyone else have similar stories on the X-Calibur?

I bought one of those balls when they first came out and it was a terrific ball in it's time until Columbia started making them. When that happened, those balls never performed like the originals did. I don't know what Columbia did different, but it was never the same ball again.

The first X-Calibers were made by Nu-Line, which I believe consisted of one or two guys making them. I don't really know how long it took before C300 took over the operation Nevertheless, that ball really changed the game, that's for sure. I still remember my reaction the first couple of times I saw that ball thrown. It was simply unbelievable.

Indeed it was. When I bought this ball and threw it for the first time, I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I was like a litle kid with a new bicycle about this ball. Within a week the other 4 members of my team all had one of these balls.

I think Nu-Line was based out of So. Cal.  Marc McDowell from Madison, WI used it first and the first reactive resin ball on tour in the AC-Delco Classic and won it with the original Nu-Line Excalibur.....maybe around 89-90 not sure what year.  Changed the way we look at equipment, lanes and bowling.

FYI.....since the first Nu-Line Excalibur's were made in So. Cal mfg. didn't think about amount of moisture retained in resin/urethane and I know of several guys who left the first Ex's in cars over night in WI/Cheeseland and they cracked very easily.  I remember one night when a guy rolled his down the lane on a frigid Wisconsin winter night and it cracked in half.  It didn't make it to the pin deck one half in the 7 pin gutter the other in the 10 pin side.
