Radical Slant - first impression (added pic)
« on: June 24, 2011, 03:12:36 AM »
Drilled my Slant up Sunday. Decided on the same drilling as my #1 Profit (4.5x60x35) no balance hole needed. I used it Monday night on this pattern http://www.bowlstardust.com/documents/ShaunsSkidhookLadder3D45ft.pdf on wood, and then on Wednesdays THS  (Brunswick synthetics)
I was very impressed with the motion this ball. It had a strong mid-lane read and a smooth arc to the pocket with great continuation through the pins. Compare to my Profit with the same layout it was about 3 boards stronger with my feet and far less flippy. Profit was 3 or 4 feet longer and much more angular. This is a Great release from Phil and his crew and i look forward to the solid.

I took a look at the pattern and the first thought that popped into my head was "wtf" lol. How does that play? My guess play tight, lay down in the middle part of the lane, and don't give the 3 pin away.

Scores for the night were down an average of 25 pins. Survival cuts were 183,183 &163. A lot depended on where in the center you were at as the higher you go the more they hyook. First 2 games we were on 4&44 and i was able to play pretty much up 10 with good results. The second pair we were on (37&38) were quite a bit tighter and the best look I ended up with was with a Shred-it going about 18-14

2 comments, if I might ---

1. I looked up "radical" in the thesaurus and was surprised to find as a synonym, the word, "cardinal".

2. Since I have seen several reviews of the Slant using this type of description,
"It had a strong mid-lane read and a smooth arc to the pocket with great continuation through the pins.",
I was immediately reminded how that same description applied to another "great" ball of about 3 years, the Roto-Grip Cell. It also did not have an "incredible" backend, but it did have "INCREDIBLE" continuation through the pin deck. It never gave up, it never rolled out. It just drove and drove and drove. It handled medium-heavy to heavy oil, while the Slant covers medium oil.

What was interesting was how people complained about how it did not cover 65 boards  and how it did not make a left hand turn at the breakpoint, yet people kept using it and kept scoring with it

Back when the Cell came out I had one but sold it to a friend after about 9 games. At that time i was bowling with a cast on my right foot and as a result had a ball speed of 11mph. I never saw enough oil for the Cell but loved my Cell Pearl.
