1994 hilton hotels classic

i saw this tournament today on espn classic. butch soper really threw the ball well and shot 300 against bob benoit. one surprise: i didn't know walter ray williams, jr., was using faball equipment at this time. i thought he was still with ebonite before he went to brunswick in 1995. it was interesting to see a "wilson bowling" logo on some of the players shirts.

I watched that show and I didn't know it going in, but my pro shop guy Adam Apo lost to WRW on the show.  He didn't make many bad shots, but you don't need to miss much for Walter Ray to jump all over you.

Wlison sold bowling balls. I forget how many they had and who manufactured them. I do not believe they were in business to long.

i was working at sears back in late 1979 and early 1980 and i remember that they carried wilson bowling balls in the sporting goods department. they were hard rubber balls and were made by brunswick.

Was this the show or the season where Walter Ray left the 8-10 dead in the pocket with the Wheel; then immediately changed to the Truck?

The Truck was as good a ball (last ball designed by Mo for Faball ((I think)) ) as the Wheel was a disaster.

no, the tournament you're thinking of was the 2002 long island open. walter ray was with faball after brunswick let him go( fools ). he started the match with a dull truck but switched to a smooth 4D. the tournament that was on today was from 1994. butch soper threw a brunswick gold rhino pro. bob benoit threw a track critical mass. adam apo threw a ebonite crush/r. john mazza threw a amf rpm i believe. walter ray, the announcers said, was the only contestant to use urethane. both were hammers, one was a shiny red solid and the other was a shiny navy blue solid.

I've seen (and recorded) a number of these old shows. I love watching to learn what some of these balls are. I didn't get into balls, until well after I returned to bowling in 1995.

One I saw 3 or 4 days ago had The Green Machine, Wayne Webb, become the Red Machine, wearing an Dyno-Thane XTC shirt and mow down a great field with 3 or 4 XTCs, all drilled differently, one with pin on axis was used for spares.

Tivo'ed it yesterday and WRW was using a reactive red hammer shiny and a blue pearl urethane for spares. On his first shots, you could see the "R" before he put his hand in it.
