Choke Artist Chris Choking Again LOL
« on: October 26, 2008, 05:13:56 AM »
Well last game he strikes solid to win the game by playing over the left gutter.  Now to play Norm Duke, he decides to move all the way to the right gutter.  He has 43 in the 3rd frame and missed the head pin in the 2nd frame LOL.

What was up with Rash and the shot clock?? I couldn't tell if he was getting his fingers stuck in the ball or if he was nervous as hell and second-guessing.

Barnes should have stayed with the Momentum Swing and played the same left side from his match with Jaros. But you gotta love Duke being on fire the entire time.

Im not a Barnes fan, but if you had paid attention to the practice session prior to the start of the final, you would probably understand why barnes made that jump
the practice between the matches, Norm was over left gutter and i can pretty well assure you he was throwing a sanded down sponge, Barnes probably assumed that line was gonna be toast based upon what Norm was doing and he chose to move out with Duke (not Barnes game, but understandable as to why he moved)  Hats off to Norm, he threw the ball really well

I think he was just nervous and just couldn't get comfortable.

How can you not be a fan of Norms game??? its the purest shot in bowling!!!

Even though I'm not a fan of Norm's game at all, still gotta respect someone that is as accurate and consist as he is.

People like you roam all over the internet - especially on sports forums or bodybuilding forums.  'XYZ, just played terrible today, he sucks'.  This is where people like you come in and say, "well...uh.. HE IS BETTER THAN YOU" LOL, no really?  Well if you can't take the heat, then get out of the fireplace.  People that criticize critism are the true whiners on any topic.

ya know i noticed that norm was playing deep inside during practice and striking too.  could've been ruining Chris' line and/or getting inside his head.  could've been just keeping his own line as pristine as possible.  the other thing was in tha semi, Chris' ball was really rolling out.  moving outside would limit the roll out some as well as increase angle entry and likely carry.  in other words, overthinking things again.  just my observations, no criticisms as i would have weighed these factors if i were in his shoes as well.

i read jeff's blog, and what chris did is even more understandable based on that.  with norm going inside like that, and how quickly that line burnt up, chris probably figured he either had to move out to norms line or loft the guttercap, which he had done at times.  far be it for us to judge, but i remember the tourney that robert smith won really lofting the guttercap and brad angelo made a series of ball changes so he didn't have to move further left and loft the guttercap as well.

For those of you that second guess the players, keep in mind that you have 10 shots to make decisions. Everything happens so fast that you pretty much have to choose and go.

Chris won 1 game in match play all week playing right of his opponent...so that was his strategy against Steve. The right lane wasn't very friendly so he decided to jump right in the title match. At that point it was gonna take a big game to beat Norm and he felt that was his best chance. It wasn't a choke, it wasn't anything other than he just never got matched up. Unfortunately you don't have the luxury to be here and see what goes on and how things unfold. This lane surface has so much friction, not to mention the heat from the lights, that the front part of the lane goes away very quickly. Chris did all he could, i'm sure.

As for Sean...it wasn't nerves and it wasn't a hand problem. The seams in the approaches this week weren't very good for a lot of players. Sean probably balked at different points on the approach at least 2-3 times every game all week.

How many times have we seen some superior talent here at ballreviews call Chris Barnes a choker?

Inane statements by asinine individuals garner no credence.

Chris made the decision to bowl a line that HE thought would give him an edge to compete against Duke.  He was wrong, as evidenced by his switch back to the middle part of the lane late in the title game, but that doesn't automatically qualify him as a choker (for you Monday morning quarterbacks).

If Chris Barnes was a choker, he wouldn't be a perenial exempt player that gets on TV more than just about anyone.

Chris Barnes is fascinating to watch on TV. It makes the show interesting that's for sure. I had to go for Norm on that one all the way. I am kind of getting tired of Barnes' pouty or smug reactions to everything though.
