Chris Barnes...what will he leave?
« on: March 07, 2009, 10:28:45 AM »
If Chris Barnes has a chance to win a game in the 10th frame on Sunday, what pin(s) will he leave standing?

I predict a 3-6-10.

If Barnes ever does get the TV finals moneky of his back he's would be capable of winning 5+ tourney in a single season.  How many times has he been on TV this season?

I recall a few years ago when Duke was on TV 7 times without a single win.

Do you guys really think none of his shots so far this week, in this tournament, have been "big" or "clutch"?  Of all the shots thrown during the week in order to get on the show, you think the first pressure shot is Sunday at around 1:35pm?

I definitly agree that Barnes has had a ton of trouble on t.v., that being said everybody out there that wants to bash him as being a 'choke artist' is a bit off base. To win as many games and matches as he does on a regular basis in order to make so many shows takes quite a few clutch shots. The difference is all the things going on around him. This is why he doesn't perform to his abilities on t.v. Just read an article in one of the bowling publications about this very topic. He has t.v. breaks, fans, lights, lights' effect on the pattern, and lets not forget the other 3-4 guys each week had a pretty good look. T.V. is a different animal and yet he has still had some decent success out there so, lighten up a bit.

If the pressure is the same, why does he always come through during the week but routinely not come through on Sundays? Some miracle, probability defying coincidence?

As for the leave, it'll probably be a 7 pin.

I believe Chris Barnes holds the record with making the most shows in one season without a win. I think it was 12 or so back in 2000 or 2001

sleep, please list the players who are clutch:  You'll say Malott, Duke, WRW, I assume....who are the clutch players and why aren't they making 8 shows a year like Barnes?  Where are they?

Barnes is an very talented and awesome bowler. It's just fun the bash him as a choke artist on TV.

The truly great ones don't fail as much as he does when the chips are on the line. He has 64 TV shows and only 10 titles compared to TJ who has only 22 TV shows but 12 titles. Mika has 28 shows and 8 titles, PA has 32 shows and 12 wins and Doug Kent has 36 shows and 10 titles. The only ones that really really come close to Barnes in TV fail percentage is Scroggins (34 shows, 5 titles) and Shafer (48 shows and 4 titles). Both of these guys have more years than Barnes.

Chris Barnes is the best Monday-Saturday bowler in the world. I just asked if all of these pressure shots are equal, how come he only seems to come through on the ones that aren't on Sunday?

Kinda reminds me of the Atlanta Braves of the 1990's--early 2000's. If memory serves me,they have something like a run of 14 or so division titles and only 1 World Series title in this span.
Barnes is a great talent--there's no doubt. It just seems that he gets to a point and lets adrenaline take over and overthrow or underthrow that one crucial shot that ends up costing him a title.
It kind of explains how he won so well in that Motel 6 tournament. Only rolling half a game seems to be his strong point. Any more than that and he does as I said above.
Look at last week. Front 5 or 6 and he loses the game.

A repeat of my post is necessary---he will win if it is a runaway---or if he needs only a mark and can get lucky enough to leave a single pin....

I posted in another thread---Chris Barnes obviously is very good when the TV cameras arent on. He is winning match play all the freaking time---which is more than many of us could even dream about. That said, if he needs a shot on TV---Im betting against him...

Read below...

Someone asked about Chris Barnes title match victories.....

Majors:
2005 US Open
Barnes 213-Allen 212
I believe this is where Barnes left a 2 pin on his 2nd shot of the 10th and converted to win.

2006 Tournament of Champions
Barnes 234-Jaros 227
Barnes needed a mark in the 10th to win.

Other titles:

1999 Erie, PA
Barnes 214-Kasimakis 197

1999 Portland, OR
Barnes 278-Duke 207

2001-2002 Hendersonville, TN
Barnes 234-Scroggins 195

2002-2003 Dallas, TX
Barnes 244-Bohn 194

2003-2004 Tokyo, Japan
Barnes 210-Jones 179

2006-2007 Irving, TX
Barnes 235-May 216 (Barnes needed count in the 10th to win)

2007-2008 El Paso, TX
Barnes 241-Jones 158

2007-2008 Columbus, OH
Barnes 209-Simard 197 (Barnes 9/7 in the 10th gave Simard a chance to strike out to win, but Simard could only get the 1st one). This was the day where Barnes piped the ball to the pocket on the right lane. But when he needed 9 to lock it up, he throws 7 on the fill. Simard left a baby split.
