Doug Kent saves Oatman
« on: March 30, 2008, 10:34:10 AM »
By making the show and bowling well this week, Doug jumps from outside the cut line in points to 20th..pushing the cut line from 38th back down to 39th. Billy Oatman edges out Ronnie Russell and finishes 39th and Kenny Simard does himself a favor by making the cashers round as well and maintains 38th..

wow...Billy better be taking Dougie to dinner tonight

If Doug Kent did not make the show and did not make the top 40, then Oatman would have been in 38th place, still making the cut for next year.  Doug moving into the top 40 or staying out of the top 40 would not have changed who made the cut for next year.

If Kent is in top 40, cut line is 39th...oatman is 39th so he is exempt.  if kent is out of the top 40, the cut line is 38th...oatman would have been 38th, and exempt.

So I guess Billy doesn't have to take anyone to dinner since he earned his own exemption.

Current Exempt made the last cut. I guess he has a big decision to make now.
To bowl next year or not.

good point..for some reason i didn't put those numbers together...i was just excited to see Simard maintain his exemption and then noticed billy was in 39th...originally thought he missed out and then saw Dougie moved up to 20th... so I got excited again

so.... HogsHarley is saying "current exempt" is Billy O? Anybody else believe  that the two are the same?  I did read the thread started by "current exempt" several days ago, and wondered who it might actually be....

i personally thought it was someone else..who didn't maintain their exemption after all..if you read their statement about making one show and how much he had made on the season at that point.. i had narrowed it down to two people and billy wasn't one of them since he had made 2 shows at that point..

but im not going to investigate anymore... i felt sorta bad for trying to figure out who it was in the first place because at least he was honest in his feelings about being on tour..

I am pretty much w/you on that.  I narrowed it down also & I probably did the same thing & drew probably the identical conclusion you came to.  ANd I have the same feelings about it, LOL!  But JC has it right as to why Billy makes the cut.

thanks for the clarification Jeff. I keep forgetting that Chris Wood withdrew because I saw that he was near +240 something at the time he withdrew.

I can hear the boards in the future.. Billy O has another exemption handed to him..which is true with him getting in once because of Ritchie Allen taking an injury deferment and now because two bowlers withdrew from the final event.. I am a fan of Billy so I am not upset..I just know some people will be

Thats actually 3 years in a row that he has backed in. Last year in the last round of the World Championships he basically withdrew in game 3....which would have dropped him lower in points and missing his exemption. Cory asked him 3 times if he was sure he wanted to do that, and he finally decided to finish. If i remember correctly he got the last spot by less than 1000 points last year as well.

Yeah that might be how some look at it, but they have to remember he had to be good enough to be able to be that next person.  he beat out a whole lot of other bowlers.

Looks like this is two years in a row that Ronnie had to depend on someone else to get his exemption and missed out.  Last year Dino and this year is even worse with two people dropping out and costing him. And not to mentioned he could have got his exemption by winning the doubles tournament.  Sounds like some rotten luck to me!

Jeff Carter, do you have something against Billy Oatman?  You made sure to point out that he "backed in" the past 3 years.  The way I look at it, he did what he had to do to EARN his exemption.
