Are you made because he has floor seats for the Lakers; fifty-yard line for the Raiders?

That forum was created back in 2004 when he first started broadcasting soccer.  He is much more knowledgeable now about soccer than three years ago.  Give him time. Let him learn the game and learn what the fans want.

I like Rob Stone.  I don't like the "Hambone" in place of the 4 bagger.  Do I have to get used to it? Ugggghh.

He is showing excitement and trying to learn or at least it sounds like he is trying. I think if he is around next year he will be 10 times better.

Golf or tennis fans would never stand for Rob Stone's ignorance of their sports.  Stone is a terrible announcer and should have been terminated.  Stone does a great disservice to the sport of bowling.

Golf or tennis fans are often uptight little jerk-offs, too, as apparently are lots of PBA fans. Lighten up, people. We've all discussed this many times before. ESPN is going to provide a play-by-play announcer, and likely the play-by-play announcer is not going to be a competitive bowler.
Stone brings an enthusiasm and sense of humor that is refreshing and interesting. I wouldn't want some stick-up-their-butt type of announcer like you have on golf or tennis - why the heck would anyone want that??
Sure, we'd all love someone like Chris Schenkel - someone who is classy, kind, respectful and interesting to listen to, but guys like that are very few and far between. He was one of a kind and will always be missed, but we can't expect to ever find "Chris Schenkel II".
Given the choice between an uptight announcer who takes things too seriously and has no fun with what he's doing, or a Rob Stone who interjects humor and enthusiasm into his broadcast, I would take the Stone type any day of the week. And it seems obvious to me that Stone cares about the PBA and it's stars. I just can't understand the big fuss.

Better yet, a Chris Crocker-esque character screaming:

LEAVE ROB STONE ALONE!!!!!

Actually golf is moving in the same direction.  Guys like Gary McCord, Ian Baker-Finch and Nick Faldo are much more upbeat and comical.

I think Rob Stone has done a pretty good job of coming up to speed.  He brings some excitement and enthusiasm (even if he is a little goofy).  Something that bowling definitely needs.

First off, the post from bigsoccer.com is over 3 years old.  That being said, I believe Rob Stone is a better announcer than Dave Ryan.  Dave Ryan was so wooden with his "60 feet to success".  There is no enthusiasm when someone bowled a strike.  Rob Stone, on the other hand, screams for the 10 pin or other pin to fall.  I like that enthusiasm.  Sure, Rob Stone relishes in saying, "Hambone" any time he can, but I believe it keeps the viewer more informed in the match by letting the viewer know that a bowler is on the verge or has bowled a four-bagger.  Lastly, Randy Peterson is a better color commentator.  He and Rob Stone have better chemistry.  Rob Stone also keeps Randy on his toes by asking things like why the 8 pin in the 2-8 spare is called a sleeper.  I think Randy Peterson likes his job better and feels more free to state his opinion on what is happening in the match with the way the bowlers are playing the lanes and how the oil is breaking down.

Rob Stone does have his quirks.  Hambone will never stick here in leagues and sometimes he gets his facts incorrect.  However, I feel he is better than Dave Ryan and will continue to grow as an announcer on the PBA Tour.

its hard to hate him, only cus hes so stupid when it comes to bowling...ud think he would research a sport that he would b announcing for.

...and you'd think you would research a language that you would be speaking.

Rob Stone is learning stuff, you just have to give him time.  Listen to the telecasts, you can hear him make intelligent comments once in a while.  They are going to keep coming more and more.  Plus, like others have said, it is not his job to know bowling; it's his job to ask questions to help others learn bowling.

I have heard from a couple of PBA players, Stone is out at the end of the season.

Did they say why?  Is it on his own or was he told?

How many times have people said it, this is not the 50s or 60s anymore when you can have the announcer like Chris Schenkel and Bo Burton, just call the action.  You have to attempt to make it entertaining for as large of an audience as you can, or you're not going to survive with all of the choices out there today.  I think the PBA is doing the best job that it can to accomplish this and Rob Stone is a step in the right direction.  He sounds genuinely excited about the sport, unlike Dave Ryan, and he's trying to do things that appeal to a larger population, not just the serious amateur bowlers and PBA Regional Pros.

The PBA is getting screwed by ESPN due to the timeslot they're given and the little amount of coverage that Sportscenter provides.  The only time you've ever seen bowling mentioned on TV is when someone shoots 300 or when the "Machuga Flop" happens.
