Let me get this straight......
« on: December 13, 2006, 09:54:07 AM »
The last exempt bowler gets $1,000?  Thats it?  Thats all?  So, as an exempt bowler you are guaranteed a measily 20k?  That is crap.  I can see now why there is talk that numerous guys are done after this season.  I bring home 3k a month and don't have the expenses they do.  I'm sure they all have some sort of sponsorship.

The PBA is dying.  It has been, but I think we are finally seeing the beginning of the end.  The Microsoft guys gave it a helluva run, but when players are talking about quitting, that isn't a good sign.

I think the same way. I was watching what I believe was Mark Roth's last win in a tournament from 1995 and first place paid 35,000$ then. So everthing as far as expenses have gone up but the prize fund goes down? that doesn't make any sense from the bowlers perspective.

I don't have the info on hand, but that win must have been a major that paid more, because the regular stops did not pay that much back then.

roth's last national title in 1995 was the iof foresters open---this tournament was not a major.
I stand corrected!

I think people are forgetting that bowling in the PBA is a dreamjob and if you make enough to just pay the bills, most people would do it in a heartbeat.  The PBA will never die for this reason.  I would bowl in the pba for 20k a year.  Keep in mind they have another half a year to make other income.

Well...I suppose if you really want to "get it straight", the last exempt bowler gets $1,800.

I saw another post about players quitting...  Where are you guys hearing this from?  I was hoping that it was just a rumor or something.

But it isn't enough to pay the bills. Mike Devaney said on the PBA forum that he needs to find a summer job just to pay the bills. He also said he would be interested in finding a job that pays a little more than he maks on tour so he can quit bowling.

I make close to 80,000 a year and I would quit my job yesterday if I had the opportunity to bowl on the tour and make the 20,000 minimum.  If the pros don't like it, then they can quit and let someone on that really LOVES to bowl and sees it as a PRIVILEDGE.

How long do you think that would last?  Are you married?  Could you even make a house/car payment, plus hotel, gas and food?

Please......

I am 25 yrs old and have thought about it many times of attempting tour trials or bowling TQR's and try to get in with the most points over the year.. But think about all the expenses's and the lack of prize fund just doesn't make it worth it yet or anymore. (Depends on how you want to look at it).

Last year it use to be $2,000 you were guaranteed every week, but not anymore.

I think that it is fairly obvious that the PBA is missing out to a certain extent due to the exempt nature. Being honest, most tournaments only manage to pay out based on the fact that they get a large number of entries with little or no chance to cash. The PBA can only carry on the way they are going if they manage to get a large number of big time sponsors, and I can't see that happening.

Reality Is.......Working out how to carry the 10, only to start leaving the 7.

Hey genius.  They have over HALF THE YEAR to make other income.  Don't "PLEASE" me when you have no idea how to add.  20,000 for HALF A YEAR is not mcdonalds money.  Think about your accusations before you look even more stupid.

And by the way, show me ONE player that finishes in last place EVERY tournament.  Also, show me one exempt player this year that will make less than 20,000.  Thank you.
