Plastic Ball Tournament Predictions

Now that the PBA plastic ball tournament is a virtual lock to happen...

Which non-exempt pros would you want to put money on to do well?  Which exempt pros do you think have a shot? And, for a final (fun) question... which pros do you think have little to no chance?

I'll start:

Non-exempt:

1) Jim Pratt
2) Mike Houtz
3) One of the senior guys -- like a Tom Baker, David Ozio, etc.

Exempt (in order):

1) Norm Duke
2) Mike Machuga
3) PDW (though the Cheetah aspect of the event might hurt his chances)
4) WRW (though I personally think his game has benefitted from reactive stuff tremendously)
5) Danny Wiseman
6) SURPRISE: Mike Fagan (for some reason, I can see it happening)

Exempt (who will not do well, also in order):

1) Sean Rash (He's got the hand to carry a ton, but this is a guy whose area on the lanes is largely the result of modern equipment)
2) Ritchie Allen
3) SURPRISE/SHOCK: Chris Barnes or Tommy Jones (just because you know there is going to be a shocking finish for somebody)

Thoughts? Let's make a few predictions...

1.Norm Duke
2.WRW
3.Tom Baker
4.Mika
5.Mike Wolf

Wouldn't it be amusing to see Rudy win his first PBA title... at the plastic stop? He couldn't beat 'em with reactive equipment, so he has to go use a plastic ball. Would be great to see him make a show, especially if he faced off against somebody completely his opposite, i.e., a Norm Duke. Two former money bowlers going at it...sweet!

Now that they have changed all the patterns, the Cheetah isn't that easy. The new Cheetah doesn't have as much room to the right as there was before. If you play it how you did previous, getting your ball out to the 5 board, you might be seeing no pocket at all unless you have revs

If you think back to when plastic was used on tour, Mark Roth, Earl Anthony, and Marshall Holman dominated. Big handed players on the right side of the lane, and the most accurate lefties on the left will do the best.

I am sure the volume will be adjusted.Therefore everyones ball will hook.It will be like putting these guys in the late 70's.Spares could come into play and the ability to make the ball hit.There will probably be some release changes and some bad habits may be produced by this.Look for a few guys to slump after this event.

for me, it depends on the oil volume. if they decrease the volume, i will most definitely take a power player-TJ, Wes, Smith, or Couch. they'll be able to create area much better, plus maintain a better entry angle. if the volume is left unchanged, however, i'll take an accuracy player-WRW, Duke, or Bohn. as for dark horses, i think that Fagan or Rhino could stir up some trouble.

I agree with this statement.  I bowled as a joke in practice with a plastic ball on a short pattern a while back after a pattern league.  I found that when I picked the resin back up I had started "helping" the ball hook at the bottom of my swing a little more.

I think this tournament will be a disaster.  The game isn't bowled with resin balls anymore...and an entire generation has learned it without them.

I said in another thread and I'll say it again...noone would watch a PGA event where they had to use persimmon drivers and balata balls on a 7500 yard course....noone wants to watch this either.

I wonder, if this does take place, how many will use Lane#1's real core plastic, XXXL or Starburst?

OR
like the old days, will some manufacturer sneak a real core into a bunch of their plastic shells, for their staff players, and call them "Touring Edition II"?

I'm with Charlest on this, are we going to see Storm put a Twin-V core in the plastic shell from the Ice Storm.
Or a new MoRich plastic ball with the EzRev core.
