Rumour has it...
« on: March 21, 2008, 03:47:38 PM »
Rob Stone is bowling the US Open, so i saw at West Babylon Lanes today. Rob Stone was seen bowling in between blocks of match play today. He was mainly throwing Storm but did throw some Ebonite. He also which was kind of ironic, was throwing a Storm Soccer spare ball.

Rob Stone will make match play at the US Open.

I would be inclined to think he's terrible since he didn't even know what a turkey was to start the season. Even the worst of league bowlers know what a turkey is. You can only come so far in a few short months.

However, wouldn't it be hilarious if he was playing us all for fools? Turns out ol' Robbie has been bowling since the age of 5 under an alias or something crazy like that. Averages 245 in league, has 75 300's to his credit, a high series of 890. Then he shows up to the U.S. Open, laces up, and wins the most prestigious title in the sport wire-to-wire. That would be awesome, haha.

Think about it if he has never bowled in his life.  When the season starts in Japan, he starts to learn.  From who?  The Pros, current & past.  He has no bad habits because he's brand new. The guy could be pretty darn good after 5 or 6 months learning strictly from these guys from scratch.(pun intended) He's in a unique situation. It's just something to think about.

if the pba would let him bowl a tournament so he could see what the pros are really up against iy should be a "regular" tournament......not a prestigious event like the us open.

Letting Rob Stone bowl the US Open would be like letting Michelle Wie golf on a sponsor's exemption... Another cut missed!

I'd rather see another PBA member bowl to at least give him a chance.

Why not the US Open?  It's open for anyone to bowl, why shouldn't he?  To me, with the current exempt format, it would make less sense to have him actually bowl that, unless it was the TQR.

It's the US Open... it's a Major... I highly doubt having Rob Stone bowling is going to keep anyone, PBA, OR USBC out of the tournament.

Agreed. Hopefully it won't create a "sideshow" atmosphere though, with all the fans yelling "HAMBONE" before he even gets one, etc. If that happens I would feel bad for those bowling with him who are trying to concentrate, and may otherwise have a legitimate (or better) chance. It's the most prestigous tournament. Why even run the risk?

if the pba lets someone like rob stone bowl the us open then my opinion of the pba has sank to a new alltime low. this man knows very little about bowling and probably will perform even worse. the us open is a prestigious event that has been around in one form or another for 70 years. having a person( not player )of his caliber only cheapens this event.

Great Post Greg!!!! I agree 100%. I think he should learn how to become a good announcer before he learns how to become a good bowler.
