It was during the 2005 USBC Masters, which he won.  He was in the middle of a big string of strikes and threw a really bad shot.  He got lucky and it carried, but then says "I threw that one like a league bowler."  The implication being that league bowlers can't throw the ball well.  Since then, he's had terrible luck on TV.

Ouch.  Way to offend the viewing audience.  The only way to correct this would be to throw a 300 game on TV and say:

Yes!  I threw that like a league bowler!

I don't even think that would really smooth things over much...  Sometimes it's better just to keep your mouth shut rather than opening it and removing all doubt of your idiocy.

I still think the whole thing was blown out of proportion.

These guys are good... but why does the PBA choose to trim a couple inches off the ends of their buffing tubes?  Maybe that's why bowlers like Norm Duke and WRW Jr. migrate to the "twig".

What makes this sad is it's probably true. Pro's don't (or at least not suppose to) throw bad shots, but they still do.

PBIII, threw a horrible shot and left a split that cost him the match. He certainly threw that like a league bowler..

Keep looking... I'm sure there's a 300 in one of those balls you keep buying!!

c(')(') here bunny bunny bunny....

But unlike a league bowler, PBIII converted the split.  Granted he still lost the match, but the conversion is something I rarely see by league bowlers.

Well, Scroggs may be on tour, but he still looks and rolls like a league bowler. That being said, there are no style points in bowling.

Scroggs can say whatever he wants.  He did have the nationwide high league average record at one point in time with like a 256.  So I think he knows all about how a league bowler would throw it lol.  Some nights, I'm so bad I wish I could throw it like a league bowler.

He says that he threw it like a league bowler, he missed his target, the ball was probably a good 5 boards outside his intended target and it came back and struck high flush.  Wasn't any luck and carry.  He did what we all do in league, what I'm gonna do in my league tonight, miss by a bunch and strike alot.  The difference is he knows when he misses, many league bowlers think they still made a good shot.

If it makes you feel better, the next time you flag a 7-pin, say "I threw that like Mike Scroggins"

A few years ago, a friend and I were practicing and talking about posting the shot. He says " Just pretend you are bowling on TV. You don't want to look like a jackass bowling on TV." We still get some good laughs on that one.
