Why is Kelly Kulick bowling
« on: January 21, 2010, 02:08:58 PM »
Why is she in the TOC?  I know she is a great bowler, but she never won a PBA tournament.  She might have won a women's series event/major, but I just don't get why they put her in there.

All the other guys in the TOC had to defeat some of their fellow competitors at some point to earn a spot.  But Kulick never won a title bowling against any of the other TOC bowlers.  She beat a bunch of women in the Women's World Championship at the WSOB.

You sir are a moron I bet the worst women on tour would mop you by at least 25+ pins a game.

Thats a pretty bold statement being that you dont know me
but honestly if I did compete full time and had the resources and backing like she does I bet I could be just as good if not better than her

My point is she did not earn that spot to bowl in this tournament
and secondly women bowling is boring
Im just not interested in watching the women slide the ball down the lane at 15mph
I just dont care for it

Well, considering that it was decided that the winner of the Womans World Championship would get a berth in the TOC, then I believe she earned a spot in the tournament.

Its not up to you to decide who gets in.  If the PBA wants to include the winner of a major women's event, then that is their perogative.

stormbowler, the women's shark championship was also a "PBA" event according to you.  So why isn't that winner bowling the TOC?  Why just give the TOC entry to the women's world championship winner and not the other events?  If they are all "PBA" events, then all winners from the WSOP womens events should be bowling this week.

Because they own the PBA and can do whatever they want.

"If you don't like it, bowl the other Tour."

Put your money up -- or raise some -- and start your own Tour and you can make whatever rules you want.

Did all the women that participated in the WSOB pay their PBA membership fees ? Because if they did not, then how can this be a PBA event and how can they be PBA Champions ?

The TOC is not only for PBA champions.  It's been said again and again.  The PBA is free to decide what champions they want to invite, whether PBA champions or winners or other tournaments.  They've invited non-PBA winners in the past.  You can expect international tournament winners to be invited in the future.  This year, they chose to invite the winner of the Women's World Championship.  Kelly Kulick won a fscking tournament.  That tournament was on the list of people to be invited to bowl the TOC.  If that's not considered a PBA title, big fscking deal.  She's the winner of a recognized tournament.  If the PBA were open to women 15 years ago when the PWBA was still going, it would not have been surprising to me to see the winner of the Queens and US Open invited to bowl.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

And her awesome showing thus far also proves that it indeed has created a stir in the bowling world, as more people are talking about the event, whether they feel she deserves the spot or not, and this type of buzz is, in the end, always a good thing for our game, since it inevitably get the attention of sponsors, especially if she ends up winning the tournament.

Everyone should be cheering for Kelly to do well, since she'll be doing an incredible service to all of us: she'll be placing bowling on the map.

I guess I should congratulate Kulick on the win now.  Barnes will find a way to blow it again.  Good bowling this week either way.

Big shots by Kelly to win showed she can beat the men and proved me wrong.

The point of my original post was to say my opinion on the tournament and that I thought it should be exclusive to PBA winners.  I still don't agree with her entry into the tournament, but she took advantage of it and won.

OMG storm bowler...the match was over when he left the stone 8.  So it didn't cost the match and you really didn't predict anything.

A point that will be lost on some I am sure, but deserves to be pointed out...the match-play head-to-head format (ie. long format) is where the cream allegedly has the best chance to rise to the top.  Remember the complaining when the PBA got away from it?

And what happens when they have an event that uses the more grueling format?  The better bowlers DO rise to the top...it really does eliminate some of the 'matching up' element of the equation.  Match play is a grind. Conditioning becomes a key and there are other strategic decisions to be made across those one-game and move formats...

Just as the raisins and regional players were invited to compete, so to was Kelly.  And she got through the grind in rather compelling fashion.  This was NOT the first time she has demonstrated she had game to compete at that level.  Raisins and regional players have also done so in selected opportunities...

How about people just recognize what has occurred and allow the reality that different styles can be competitive.  KK definitely belongs.

Congrats Kelly Kulick!

I bet some people will spend the next week at the least pulling their foot out of their mouths.

No disrespect to Chris Barnes(cause the feeling would be the same regardless), but I'm loving the fact she flat out murdered him.
