the PBA used to have classes on finance when they used to have PBA school back in the day...the PBA could do more to help the bowlers on managing finances. kinda makes the PBA itself look bad when its members are struggling. and if you think its just Devaney scratching by, then you guys are in for a surprise.

he could have sold his shares so that his family has a roof over their heads.

bigz - This was brought up on the PBA.com forums and Mike stepped in and answered that he had sold his interest in the horse racing syndicate 3 or 4 years ago.  Apparently his bio page had never been updated and this was where they were getting this info for the telecast.

Is it really news to anyone on this forum that you don't get rich bowling in the PBA? Best of luck in the future to Mike DeVaney.

DeVaney knows he messed up, he is open about it.  It's not the PBA or Bowling fault.  



Glad to know that Devaney's Financial Advisor is posting on these boards.  He said he made some mistakes...but to talk down to him like you're someone special is a bit ridiculous.  He makes about $40k/yr on average out there...and brings home maybe 50% of that if he's lucky.

cisco..i wished that i had seen that.
i'm glad to see that he's trying to get his life on track,but he still needed some cash in reserve so that he's not putting his family in such a desparate sutuation.

Very sad!  One of the greatest bowlers on the planet!  Top 50 anyway..

If he was in golf he would have made about 1.5 million to be top 50 in world!

The sport was fine in the 70s!

Finals like this one...should bring it all back!  ....RIGHT!

Whatever happend to the PBA making it so the bowlers didnt have to struggle to make a living??????

Wasnt it a few yrs ago every PBA event was 40k and Majors were 100K for 1st place???  and you had several guys over 100k in earnings for the yr?  

Oh yea the Exempt Tour happend........

devaney is more than likey a better bowler and/or atleast has a better chance of winnig a tourny than you....  also throws storm not track.

Imagine having the ability to be able even to FEEL sound enough to enter a PBA event/qualifier... That would be a brilliant achievment, as least in my books, forgetting about making money on tour, let alone cashing in... Just to say that i did it, I competed on the same stage would be memorable...

Then again, with a mortgage, wife and 3 kids who eat like theres no tomorrow, I would have to pass on the tour...Even if I was a Devaney. You can make a living playing tennis within top 150-200, sadly for bowling thats not the case.

It makes u appreciate how brilliant the Duke,Waler,Parker,Barnes and the likes truly are!
