If the PWBA was to come back.......

I could see them make a come back, but without a TV deal.  Im sure that there are enough great women bowlers out there to form a tour of their own, but will never make it back on TV.  What do you think?

It has to be fustraighting for women in this sport, no high point in the sport, unless you want to take a chance with the men, which I have only see one make great success in Liz Johnson.

In the old system of men Bowling, i.e. old format not top 60 or whatever, I could see the PWBA returning but in the current climate I do not see the women returning to TV let alone recreating the women's tour. There are not enough top women bowlers let alone enough elite womens bowlers to justify the tour returning.

 The only way I see a return to the PWBA of old is if there were a run of women bowlers winning on the mens tour. This would justify a return of the womens tour. But, that's not likely to happen in the current climate.

I think there are plenty of women bowlers out there to form a new PWBA.  Top new comers would include Shannon Pluhowsky, Diandra Asbaty, Annita Manns, Missy Billinger, and many more.  I know of many women here in Wichita from the WSU program that would love to see the PWBA kick back up so that they don't have to bowl in all of the amateur tournaments.

It isn't just the issue of having the bowlers though...there has to be competent management to run the show.  

There were a lot of problems with the two previous attempts to put something together...too many to list here.  Even with the old PWBA, there is a reason some regions struggled to get events lined up and then to get bowlers out to the event while other regions had no problems drawing bowlers and putting together a 10-15 event schedule each year with the events being on a challenging condition instead of a strikefest.

Amen.
Steve Sanders had a decent shot at starting things back up, but ESPN did away with that. The PWBA cannot be successful over the long haul, at a decent level, without TV.

And the politics of the old organization had to collapse it sooner or later.

And I fervently hope the USBC is NOT successful in starting things up again. That's the last thing women need.

Someone with $$ needs to come in and get something started. But it has to be something with a viable future, where ladies can go and truly make a living, more than 9-12 weeks a year. In it's last couple of years, the pwba had 5-6 or so stops in the spring, queens in the summer, and 5-6 stops in the fall. Make it 10-12 stops in a row, and you might have something. But working at a job, and arranging for time off like that - HAH. Most employers will just laugh...

In my opinion, and this goes for both mens and womens bowling, is that bowling doesnt have any sex appeal which is why its not considered entertaining.  Im in digital media/advertising and the key to success these days, sadly, is sex appeal.  In every other sport, u have cheer leaders, models, guys built up with huge muscles, etc.  In bowling, we dont really have that.

I got to tell ya, after participating in my first Women's Championship Tournament, I don't think there's much hope.  

The Ladies tournament is NOTHING like the men's (which is now called the Open Tournament).  I've bowled in that several times as well as Men's State, City and City Masters tournaments.  But I was asked to sub in the Women's Championship Tournament this year, and I will never do it again.  

The Ladies just have to get more serious where this sport is concerned.  Stop treating it like a Pep Ralley and "get together", but more like the National Tournament it's supposed to be.  Professionalism was severely lacking in the Women's Championship Tournament, IMO.  Unless you are going to bowl the Queen's Tournament (at nearly 4 times the price for entry) you will not find any serious atsmosphere in the Ladies only competition.  If the women that bowl are not going to respect the sport as a sport and competition, then how is it ever going to gain the respectability amongst its peers and the public to ever have a Women's Tour again?
