59155 - Storm / Re: The Road
« Last post by Oliver Lawson on Today at 06:57:25 PM »
The Road is Storm's newest Thunder Line edition to the current lineup. The FE2 Inverted Core has now been paired with the new A.I. outer core material that lowers the RG and raises the differential by a few points. We also see a new version of the REX base with REX Hybrid. I am one of the few people that hated the original Hy-Road because it was just too clean and lacked a responsive enough backend motion mostly due to my tilt and higher ball speed. The Road is not the case. REX Hybrid offers for me what I think a lot of people see out of the Hy-Road and I absolutely love it. I drilled my 5x4.25x4.5 2LS which is a fairly strong, longer pin layout for me which I have never tried before. Compared to the 900 Global Xponent Pearl, The Road does not rev up as fast and I think is cleaner through the midlane. The Xponent Pearl offers a much lower RG which I think helps blend the lane better, but it does not handle steeper angles as well as The Road. The Road got better and better the farther I moved left and away from the typical cliff we see with house shots. I think this is going to be a viable option for looping the lane when playing straighter is not the option. Take The Road less traveled and go bowl up a Storm!!

59155 - Roto Grip / Re: Optimum Idol
« Last post by Oliver Lawson on Today at 06:43:38 PM »
The new Roto Grip Optimum Idol features the well-established Ikon core now wrapped in A.I. outer core material and the Microtrax Solid coverstock. I drilled my Idol 5x4x4.25 and it was honestly more ball than I was expecting. I did not care for the original idol because it was too clean and too forward; however, the Optimum Idol proved to be different. It is earlier and stronger off the backend of the pattern especially compared to something like that of an IQ Tour Edition. An IQ Tour to me is cleaner and more forward compared to the Optimum Idol. To put it in perspective, I would put the Optimum Idol between the Phaze 2  and Axiom Solid. I see the earlier shape like the Axiom, but I see a similar ball motion off the backend compared to the P2. Overall, I think the Optimum Idol is going to shine on a lot of different conditions and is easy to adjust with surface changes.

Layout: 55 x 4 ½ x 35

The DNA coil is one of the strongest shiny balls that Storm has ever produced.  The amount of midlane traction that this ball has is quite incredible, and it makes it extremely versatile.  Due to the out of box shiny finish, the DNA Coil ignores the heads and works well on medium to medium/dry oil conditions, but it digs in the midlane enough to make it very usable on medium/heavy conditions as well.  The reaction shape is a hard arc; not flippy or unpredictable, but not super smooth either. When the DNA Coil is too much ball for a certain condition, The Road or the Lightning Blackout are perfect compliments.

Ball: Brunswick Beyond Infinity
Coverstock: HK22 - A.X.H. Pearl
Core: Infinity
Factory Finish: 500-1000-1500/Crown Factory Compound
Layout: 50 x 5 x 30

The Beyond Infinity has one of the best shelf appeals on the market today. Fortunately, the appeal doesn’t end on the shelf. The Beyond is a great step down from the larger footprint, heavier oil balls like the Mindset and Ultimate Defender. When the bigger bowling balls start to bog down and lose hitting power, the Beyond is the perfect step down before the Endeavor or Ethos. Although the Beyond is long and angular, it never feels like it is going to miss its move on the back part of the lane. If you like sharp looking bowling balls that perform as good as they look, give the Beyond a try.

Cover Stock: eTrax Pearl Reactive
Finish: Reacta Gloss
Core: Momentous AV + A.I. Core
Color: Berry/Silver/Iron
RG: 2.48
Differential: 0.049
Intermediate Diff: 0.017

The newest addition to Roto Grip’s HP4 line is none other than the Attention Star. The Attention Star features the original Momentous™ Core which, before now, was found primarily overseas. This ball gets through the fronts easily, has a strong midlane reaction, with an even stronger back end reaction. This is a great fresh medium oil ball that I can play up the lane with and when they start to break down a little bit, really start to open up the lane with. For me this ball really fits perfectly in between the Roto Grip Clone, as it gets down the lane a little cleaner, and TNT infused as it is just stronger overall.

Storm Lightning Blackout Review
Layout
VLS 4.75x4x1.5
Dual Angle 48x4.75x23
Storm Lightning Blackout uses a brand new core called Warp with AI technology wrapped with REX pearl coverstock.
The Lightning Blackout is very clean through the fronts with a power and control. The lightning blackout will offer a later transistion ball motion so it will be great when length is needed but still continue on the backend.
I was very surprised on how strong the backend motion it has but thats why the core and coverstock combination is very important.
The Lightning Blackout is going to be a great compliment to The Road and IQ tour so when i feel those 2 balls aren't strong enough on the backend the Lightning is going to be perfect.
I can also see it complimenting the Virtual Energy Blackout when its too strong so the lightning will be a great stepdown.
I can also see adding surface to the Lightning and it will be a stronger IQ tour solid.

The Lightning Blackout will instantly become a fan favorite for most bowlers arsenals. The perfect transition ball for a multitude of situations from step down off the super strong and medium strength balls; the Blackout will easily clear the fronts and give plenty of continuation down lane. I see the Blackout as a weaker version of the UC2 and with the Hy-Road pearl discontinued this ball will perfectly fit that slot for clean and angular when the heads hook early. Also, for those who fear it may be too weak I saw plenty of grab when I did miss in and the Blackout still read the lane properly and hooked where I needed it to. I did not see over sensitivity to either friction or oil which blended out the lane real nicely for me.
