Bowler Stats:
Speed: 15.5 MPH
Rev Rate: 250 RPM
Tilt: 6.6 degrees
Axis Rotation: 80 degrees
PAP: 4 5/8 over 1 5/8 up

Layout:  5 X 3 X 21/2 VLS

Video Review:  https://youtu.be/FVGFjZvRalg

I matched up well with the original Summit so when the Summit Peak was released I knew I wanted to see how well this ball would compliment the Summit. The TX-23 pearl cover stock seems slightly weaker than the TX-16 pearl that is featured on the Journey. The A.I. Tech in the core gives me the same mid lane reaction as the Summit but pearl cover adds some length from front to back.

The layout featured on this ball gives me the length and quicker motion off the dry that I need on the lower volume house shots in my area. This layout also allows me to stay to the right during the transition of the house shot during league. I can start with the Journey in the track area then when it becomes too early I can change to the Summit Peak and have more length and sharper back end motion off the end of the pattern.

I have not changed the surface on this piece at all. I just let the amount of games remove the polish. I have not used this ball on any PBA 50 patterns yet as the 2024 PBA 50 Tour season has just begun.

Roto Grip – Attention Star
Layout 4.5 x 4.5 x 1
Style – stroker
Ball Speed – 14-15 mph at pins
Condition – house pattern - HPL surface
Surface – box condition

Interesting piece so far…when it’s looked good it’s been great. But, when it hasn’t…ugh.  I’d decided to drill a couple new balls with stronger pins and buffers to get different motion. Seems I need a little more help as I get older in creating some different shapes.
As I move left across the lane, I can get it to blow right through the break point. Which is surprising as I don’t have much ball speed any longer. I’d expected something different reaction wise. However, staying further right, more in the dry, it picks up and continues very well.
My VEBO sees the spot better and allows me movement left. But I did lightly hit the surface on the VEBO with a used 4k pad. Wanted to wait until I bowled a tournament this past weekend to hit the Attention Star. It’s going to happen this week. Hopefully, that brings it alive and closer to what my expectations were when drilling.
As far as recommendations are concerned now, I’d see this as very useful for lower rev players that prefer to stay right. Will get through the fronts and continue with core strength. I haven’t seen any higher rev players in my area roll this piece. Would assume rev dominant players would enjoy it. But higher speed players would need to crack the shell to use in the puddle.
Not sure that I’m going to need both the Attention Star and VEBO in a bag. If you rotate a small arsenal I would see the same thing. Higher level tournament players it could make sense to have both.

Roto Grip – Optimum Idol
Layout 5 x 4 x 2.5
Style – stroker
Ball Speed – 14–15 mph at pins
Condition – house pattern - HPL surface
Surface – box condition
Pleasantly surprised by the motion I received from this ball. Worried my slower speed would slow the ball down too much and therefore not continue through the pins. Totally wrong on my end if there is some oil in the heads. I don’t believe that to be too surprising of a comment given lane surfaces and strength of bowling balls today.
The ball was left in box condition for initial use. I’m waiting to see how many games it takes before lane shine is present. Early use hasn’t shown any noticeable shine. Little tough to get the surface clean after using it in box condition. Might need to use Clean and Dull or a spinner to assist in the future.
Didn’t get past 15 at the arrows with use. With some polish that could be an option, but I’ll have to change balls in box condition once I start migrating further left. I’ll need something cleaner and responsive on the backend for my style.
Strong benchmark option for those in the market for that reaction. Believe this will be a ball that many styles can utilize with success. The Storm Products YouTube page has a great video showing the difference between the box surface versus shine. Link below. I might try some polish in the future or just drill a second one for polish.

The Attention Star has quickly become one of my go to transition pieces for the tournament arsenal.  I generally keep a 2000 grit on the cover just to get it to pick up in the oil a touch more.  But I can usually get into this ball once my Optimum Idol stops making the corner downlane.  Definitely able to open up the lane a bit more with this especially once I start to see some friction developed on the lane!

Another Idol…Another homerun! I almost always keep an Idol in my tournament bag.  One of the first balls out of my bag when I need a strong, smooth, controlled piece. Best part is that I can generally stay in it for a few games before I have to get into my cleaner options. Really continues to go through the pins well while migrating deeper on the lane! Definitely recommend for the tournament bowler!

Likes:Scorpion Low Flare.  I can’t say enough about this gem.  I’ve only used it so far on a very challenging Earl Anthony pattern and then the pro am with the fans after on a house shot.  I was able to use the Scorpion Low Flare through the last 5 games of qualifying and 4 games in the cashers round.  I’m looking forward to using the Low Flare on many medium/heavy oil patterns as it is so smooth getting to the spot but responds nicely to any shape you need to create as the games go on.  Don’t sleep on this one!!

Likes:Black Widow 3.0 is the latest greatest release in the Black Widow line and does not disappoint!  This piece is very predictable with a smooth but strong motion downlane and through the deck.  She will easily be your first pick out of your bag for medium to heavier oil patterns.  It made it’s debut on the Earl Anthony pattern this past weekend which was very challenging.  On the fresh, I was able to roll it to my target revved up but not throw it at it which would be peril.  The response and hitting power just proves why the Black Widow line is and always has been a cut above.  The black and orange coloration is turning heads in every bowling center and pro shop.  Don’t miss out on getting yours today!!

My pro shop doesn't seem to know whether they use the Ultimate Vinyl insert or the Pro V2.  Can anyone tell me the difference between the two?

10946 - Roto Grip / Roto Grip Attention Star
« Last post by StormRoto on May 05, 2024, 10:07:00 PM »
The new Roto Grip HP4 ball is Attention Star which comes with the Momentus AV core with A.I. technology wrapped in the eTrax Plus pearl reactive coverstock. I drilled mine 4.25 x 4 x 2. Pin up.  Personally the Reacta Gloss just doesn't match up with my ball roll. So I used 1000 pad to take it off then added Storm step 2.  To be totally honest it took me a while to figure out the Attention Star. It is a unique motion for me. It is very very clean through the fronts even with such a big asymmetrical core.  I have used the Star on our modified house patterns, 44ft and 46ft. I ended up taking a light 2000 Abralon pad to the surface to help the reaction. That helped get it started up a little earlier which blended out the pattern real well.  I have also used the Star on Kegel  sport patterns, even on the shorter lengths 39 and 40 ft. The big core takes over and gets real forward but continuous through the pins.  Very impressive on how versatile and how the Attention Star goes through the pins.
Great looking ball also for shelf appeal!  Great Addition to RG Line!

52604 - Roto Grip / Hustle BRY AND XRAY Reviews
« Last post by StormAndrew on May 05, 2024, 04:37:46 PM »
The biggest bang for your buck in performance is back with the new Hustles. The XRAY provides a smooth controllable shape with the BRY being cleaner and more angular.
I tested both these balls after the Road and was impressed with the performance of both of them. Typically, I do not throw or bring extremely weak equipment as my rev rate is on the lower side although I intend on bringing the XRAY to league this week where the surfaces hook extremely early. Both Hustles read the body of the lane well and provided plenty of continuation through the pins as seen in the video.
